Just gifted this 1918 Singer 15-30, electric. It was apparently a remanufactured one, purchased in the mid 40's. Bad news is it has the Godzilla paint over top of what was certainly a pretty fine...
Right! I found that too. Thanks.
Thank you. I found that it is in excellent working order. Took it apart and cleaned and lubricated it, (well not completely, but mostly,) and it runs like a...
Hey guys, I just picked up a 15-91 in good working condition, (I think.) It came without a book or any bits. Where do you get parts for your Singer machines?
This is just as I got it home and...
Thanks. As I just inherited another Singer, I'mma probably look the other way. Looks like a solid machine though. :thumbup1:
Hey, what's the skinny on a Sears/Kenmore 1317?
Local for sale for $100. Looks good with case, parts and book.
...like I need another sewing machine, but... ;)

Yes, Ma'am. :)
The stars aren't going to align for me. I'm out.
Sorry, @LDC. :(
watching, with caution, to see what this one decides... :shades:
Thought you guys would like this Singer I just inherited. I think it's a 15-86. Really good shape with original cabinet. Need to get it cleaned up now.
:D

Yep, that's how I did most of mine. I think I got them from Home Depot too.

I found some 1-1/2 tips I used once, but they're hard to find. I used 1-1/4 rubber chair tips on a couple. Like OD said, you have to knock the corners off of the last bit.

Please don't feel bad. Just because you don't understand something doesn't make you dumb, no matter what everyone says. :p
;)
Hang on, speed limit on the 105 mile long Skyline Drive is 35mph. Still slow, but not 25 unless something drastic has happened. BRP is mostly 45mph.
The campground near Meadows of Dan is...
That's even prettier than the first one!
Are you saying the paracord lasted 4 years in the elements?
@rb_daniel, you might try to shorten your suspension a bit before you lengthen the ridge pole. You could probably do with a little less sag.
Just a thought.
Looks great! :)
^ Voice of, (considerable,) reason. :)
No, it's really a bit fiddly with the 3' footprint. You're not alone in thinking that!
You can hang a bridge, but you need a good bit longer ridgepole.
I hoped it was clear that the original intent was to make a stand that took up as little floor space as possible and was stable. My stands have been such for me, but using them outdoors or on uneven...
I don't see a reason to splice anything in when a zing-it prussik will do the job. Yes, they move, that's the point. They're feather light, and always adjustable.

Some have used innertube rubber, some have used plasti dip, and some, including me, have used rubber feet, (like for chairs.)

Seat height is the main thing, if youre using it indoors. That and your short tripods can have a smaller footprint.
Turtlelady's original stand is quite low to the ground.
Outdoors you have to...
No! :)
Really nicely done and well documented too. Congratulations!
I used grosgrain channels for my last one, but the next one will definitely use channels like you've done. :thumbup1:
Said it at least once before. Unloaded TD Stand plus wind equals really scary kite! :scared:
No kidding! You hit the mother load. I've been hundreds of times and never saw anything nearly as nice in a thrift store.
Congrats!
Just want to pause you in your thinking right here. One of the beauties of a thin ripstop hammock is they breathe.
Otherwise, it's a fine idea and you have good advice flowing here already.
...
Well, you're the first to report breaking one of those end caps. Guess we all figured it would happen eventually.
Which is why, most have done away with them and gone to some other sort of system...
Yes, that last bit is like the Aluminum Mast stands with the three poles joined with eye bolts and such. It's doable.
Every one I've built was with a 16 gauge top rail and 2x2" tripod legs. If...
Do you want to lash these tripods? How will you make tripods otherwise? Hinges? Hinges could be tricky, but I'm sure it could be made to work.
Yes, it seems a little bit overkill to me, but...
Pretty sure everybody is paying about $10 for those. Buy all you can for $2. :)
What many have done is to find a way to keep the prusik from sliding, either by wrapping the pole with innertube, or by adding a stopper, like a thru-bolt, and then hanging the hammock right there...
Yep. My 11'+ hangs fine on the 10' pole, but my larger tarps are too long for it.
I have a longer ridge pole arrangement for the yard.
Wow, NCC, that's a spectacular failure of the top rail. I know there are heavier hangers using these stands. I can't quite tell from your first pic, but from your later ones, you have your hammock...
What's $2.10 from Lowes? That top rail you linked to is $10.77
Very nice work, Bryan.
And 'Dutch Approved' - so you know it has to be special!
:)
It would make more sense to me to keep the tripods the same, and adjust your suspension to get your foot higher. I think if the ridge pole isn't nearly level, you're going to be adding factors that...
Yeah! Science too! :D
goober, I don't want to discourage you from trying something different. That's how innovations happen. Just suggesting you not poo poo the available testimonial, which is...
If you attempt to make it flat, you must make it tight to achieve that. If you're keeping a sag then pushing the trees apart and the hang points higher and higher to compensate isn't doing anything...
You know, I said "HYOH" but I think you're doing it wrong.
The 30* rule isn't a rule, it just happens to work out to be about right, given the length of hammocks and the lengths of people. No...
You chose your name well! :p or did it choose you?!?
just kidding. :)
Your theory is fine if you're talking about a hammock with stretchers but with a gathered end hammock, the "flat" is...
Rock and Roll! :)
 Very nice.
I believe the real concern isn't so much of the top rail coming apart, it's that the likelihood of it bending at the joint is far greater than anywhere else. Snaps, pins, or none, that's where it...
Sawzall, brother! :)
See you get yourself some sort of measuring device and measure from your feet to your head...
That ought to be a place to start. ;)
That's a very respectable stand and it came in at a good price. Love the tees and elbows.
Nice. :)
Oh well. If it was near me, I'd buy it, but better luck next time.
Looks like a BU. I have one and it's a dream to use. This one looks a bit beat up, but can probably be saved.
Go for it! Even if you had to pay to get it tuned up, it would be worth it.
You could do that with a 21'. Both Lowes and HD carry a 10'6" with one swaged end. We are cutting it in half and making the joint in the middle.
At least every Lowes and HD I've been in have...
The forces on the tripod are primarily compressive. Cedar will be fine if you can get good straight grained stuff.
Search this thread for cedar. It's been done numerous times.
