What year is it?
I went on my own profile page to see when the last time I logged on was, but it's been too long to even tell. Three kids under 3 will do that to a man.
Anyhow, I've since moved...

I'd definitely get in on that.
I would stay away from any suspension elements that are not Dyneema or Polypropylene, simply because of the stretch factor. Elongating suspension can make for a very uncomfortable hang.
Most here...
I had a hunch the shallower curves would help. I also had a feeling that I might screw it up, so I measured the depth of the curves to only 3" and got .742" poles. Thanks for those excellent videos....
I tore out the stitching in the head end last night and replaced that end cap with one that would allow for a 40" spreader, and kept the foot end at 29". I cobbled together some broomhandle spreader...
I started DIY-ing my first bridge hammock last night following Grizz's tutorial. I got the body completely done in about 3 hours time (it really is easier than it looks) but I'm afraid I may have...
Hello all, it's been a while. How the heck are ya?
Anyway, I'm planning my first major thru-hike for this October, 111 miles from Clayton, GA up through Franklin, NC to Cheoah Bald on the Bartram...
I (6'2", 270lbs) sleep comfortable on my side in my ENO DN. It's all about getting the hang dialed in. Once you've got the angles right, it's smooth sailing from there.
Hello all, it's been a while!
This weekend will be the first time my first son has been camping. He'll be 5 weeks old the first night we're there. Here he is!

I weighed some quilts last night. If they're heavy, it's because they're big
40 degree topquilt, 1.1 ripstop, long length, no footbox, 54" wide at head and foot, 16.45 oz...
Haven't weighed them yet. I'll break out the scale tonight and post pics.
I always buy from Wilderness Logics. Their down comes packaged in 1oz bags, and I design all of my stuff so that I need exactly 1oz per chamber, so it makes stuffing a WHOLE lot easier. I would...
6 scant months ago, I was afraid of a sewing machine. I thought I'd post a few shots of my work thus far as a way of showing off and also as encouragement for those of us who want to DIY but may...
Thanks! If I could do it over, I would allow for a larger sewing margin. I was cocky when I saw the 1" allowance and thought I could get by with 1/2". I lost a good 3" overall in length and width, so...
I think all in all I invested about $120 into it. I had some startup costs, things like thread and bobbins, but totally worth it, not only in the money savings over a commercially made one, but also...
I'm kinda new to DIY, one of those guys that never thought he could sew until he started sewing. I ran a couple of test seams on a tent footprint, and thene away I went with a down topquilt. I just...
I also made a SLS/Whoopie hybrid for my ENO. It's basically BearChaser's design with carabiners clipped into the Alpine Butterfly loops, and hammock whoopies attached. That way, I have an all...
I'm thinking the 1991 Singer has run her course.
Disaster.
My sewing machine broke. I was sewing along beautifully and noticed a sudden decline in stitching speed, and then a nice crack. I quit and took her apart to figure out what went wrong...
I always just do that thing where you bury your shoulders and knees into the sides and roll the whole hammock over. It leaves a convenient slit for hands and other bits to work freely and do the deed...
FINALLY. I got some 1.1 in the mail today and promptly went to work. I spent about an hour and a half and got all the pieces cut up. I had a little trouble figuring out which side of the ripstop was...
Torture: (n.) The state of DIY projects experienced when one sits for the better part of week, rapidly approaching the out-of-country camping trip of a lifetime, staring helplessly at 13 ounces of...
I tried the sheet folding thing, and 54 inches seems about right. Enough for me to spread out comfortably. Progress moves forward as planned on project "Bigfoot" as soon as my materials arrive.
I...
I'm all set to pull the trigger on DIYGearSupply for some real 1.1. They list forest green as specifically calendered and downproof, but the other colors are listed only as DWR. Are the DWR colors...
Well I went by Joann's today and they only had 1 kind of ripstop, so I bought enough to do this project. I leave for Ireland in 8 days, so I don't think I'll have time to order something calendered...
The only thing I could find at a brick and mortar store was 1.9 oz. uncalendered ripstop. Suitable? I don't mind the extra weight, especially if it means better durability.
Yes, 2" baffles indeed. According to a few examples I've seen, that puts me somewhere between 30* and 20*, which is more than enough to comfortably handle the coldest Georgia winter night.
FWIW,...
A couple of things right off the cuff, as I work my nightshift and ponder obsessively about making a down TQ...
I'm a big man, 6'1" and 270lbs, so I want to make this thing more than big enough....
Here's goes nothing.
I just ordered 13 oz. of 850+ down from WL for a DIY top quilt. I plan to document in real time the play by play on this thread. My sewing experience is(to prove what a noob I...
Are those loops double stitched? Like zig-zagged at 4mm and then again at 6mm or something along those lines? I've wondered if that's beneficial.
For sale is a new style ENO DryFly in navy, used once in rain. All stock guylines, excellent condition and clean, comes with stuff sack. Asking $55 shipped CONUS.
The Minimus is now sold. It was a CR123 version.
I'm entertaining any reasonable offer.
Bump with a price drop. Now asking $80
For sale is a SureFire Saint Minimus, 1st generation, rarely used and in perfect condition. In my opinion, this is THE headlamp to have for pitching hiking and camping. The brightness is infinitely...
For sale is a used Dereelight DBS V3 with all kinds of goodies.
-DBS V3 host with orange peel reflector
-focusable aspherical lens for maximum throw (spotlight mode)

For the time being, I'm sticking with the full-enclosure net. I frequently hang a leg or two over the edge and would like to keep that ability, plus I'm still using a pad so the possibility exists of...
I'm not a seamster, and I have a new GG "16x16" that I want to add ridgeline loops to. I was wondering if the trusty old Gorilla tape and grommet would work out. Has anybody tried this or can anyone...
Yeah, I bought the "16X16".
As the delivery date for my GG 12X12 approaches, I'm thinking about how to pitch it without having to add tieouts. Help me think through this (all of this assumes rectangular pitching):
If I...
I usually just fold a paper clip in half and use it to splice. I can only do about 6 inches at a time, but if you're careful about getting it through the exact same holes, it works fine, and the...
I saw BearChaser's recent video on single-lines and couldn't resist. I always though they'd be incompatible with my ENO setup, namely my tarp, but with tensioners it works out beautifully. I've also...
I personally haven't used it in anything more than a light drizzle. However, two weekends ago, a friend of mine used it over his grand trunk (my wife and I were in a tent :() pitched on the windward...
I'll be heading to Ireland on May 16 and staying for 11 days. I intend to see as much of the Emerald Isle as possible, and I'd be glad to pack some to bring to you if you'd like to purchase it cheap...
Yep. They are all outfitted with a bright red ribbon and the tail ends were backspliced 5 inches.
Not at all. Whoopies are super easy to make. The day I made this post I cranked out 6 pairs (that's 12 singular) of whoopies in 2 hours or so. And it really doesn't require much for tools. All you...
I wouldn't give up on the DN quite yet. I'm also a side sleeper, and none too experienced as a hammocker. I find that each time I sleep in my DN, I get better at it. The latest good night's sleep...
Yeah, it is a little hard to see as I also have an s-biner clipped into it to hold the tarp ridgeline. It hasn't given me a reason to distrust it yet. I've got one night and one fantastic afternoon...
