Thanks for the info. Still haven't decided if I'll try the fence top rail or go for something a little stronger.

Thanks for the info. Still haven't decided if I'll try the fence top rail or go for something a little stronger.
Years ago I built a 2x4 hammock stand. It's a pain to move around, on/off the porch, so I'd like to try a TurtleDog Stand. I'm 325lbs and after looking through the huge TurtleDog thread, I couldn't...
Stuff your hammock in a bread bag. Take measurements.
She's too small for the trail, but at home I can barely get in my hammock before she jumps in. She puts off more heat than a Nalgene full of hot water, and almost the same size... Maggie, 8yo.

The link to the thread shows that you get 765 yards, you won't need to worry about running out for a loooong time. It really depends on which type of stitch you set your injector to use and how many...
You're comparing ounces by weight vs by volume. I'm guessing that the Heet is sold by volume (Fluid oz) instead of weight.
Me too. I ordered on the morning of the 31st and it's still "awaiting fulfillment". I saw a Facebook post yesterday that a guy ordered an econ burrow and a regular TQ (can't remember which one) on...
Since no one has mentioned him yet, Shug... Sintax77, Sailing and Such, Outdoor Adventures, Spiguyver, Adventure Archives (backpacking with great cinematography, but not much with hammocks), Follow...
I cover the fabric with a bath towel and iron on top of it.
If you want to make a cheap & easy cot, search youtube for "pvc dog cot". Depending on the dog, you may be able to get him/her to carry their own cot while hiking.
If you can stand the smell.
Here's my Dutch netless with the Noah 12, hanging in square config. It's in a modified "porch mode", I have my hiking poles at my foot end. The woot deal posted earlier is a steal! I've had mine a...
Buy a kit, watch a few youtube vids and do it! You gotta start somewhere!
I bought my grosgrain and cord locks at Walmart and ordered 100' of shock cord from amazon. That's all that I used for my Costco UQ.
I 2nd the Kelly Noah's Tarp. Make or buy a set of snakeskins (XL Hennessy Snakeskins are under $20) and you'll have a great setup that will last for years. With the skins, you can have the tarp hung...
Hammock? No sir, this is a tree tent....
I need to make some sew on "Official Tree Tent" tags.
The last time he logged in here was 4/4/16
Where do you get the zing-it for $13? I work in Cincy.
Mine was fine at 335lbs.
I used to use reflectix as a pad, but I cut it to fit in a cheap Walmart fleece sleeping bag. It worked ok at keeping me warm, but wasn't very comfortable. Get a UQ, nothing else compares IMO.
Nice job efosterw!
Here's the order page, for the standard 12' tarp, with instructions at the bottom.

I keep telling myself I need a ridgeline organizer, but I've yet to make one. I do hang other things with the little, cheap aluminum, carabiners or Nite Ize S Biners. The S Biners are my favorite...
For me, the 11' Dutch 1.6W Hexon works great. I'm 6'2" & 315 and have made my own 12' and 13' hammocks, but the extra width really makes things more comfortable & easier to get a flat lay... for me. ...
Getting a late start this year. My first night of 2016 in the hammock.

I've made my own hammocks and while satisfying, I'm lazy & like to spend $ so I bought a wide Dutch hammock made out of 1.6 Hexon. I'm using my DIY Costco Down UQ and TQ, and a Kelty Noah's Tarp 12'....
Just remember that when folks say that X tarp is "heavy", the difference in weight is about a 12oz can of your favorite beverage.
This is one of the bigger (maybe biggest) dog & hammock camping threads on here. You may find some info in it.

I'd guess that a 4-6' hammock length would work for a "medium" sized dog. I'd probably go with something a little more sturdy than ripstop though.
This video, by Consumer Reports, showed up in my news feed today. They compared factory treated clothing with their own application of deet. Just thought some might be interested.

With the luminoodle, just leave it in the bag and toss in a usb battery pack as well. It makes a good lantern and the battery is kept out of the way.
According to DuPont, Tyvek doesn't start to shrink until ~220° and begins to melt at 275°. I doubt the average dryer gets hotter than 150°.
You can get the 5' or 10' version on Amazon.com right now. The 5' is $20 and the 10' is $30.
Thanks for the info!
This shipping delay stinks. I saw the post stating he was running about 3 days behind, but I placed my order anyway. I ordered a Hex W 1.6 and a bug net @ 9am Thursday. It's 3:30pm Monday (2 business...
Try this link for a very similar stand...
https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/8758-2x4-PHS-(Portable-Hammock-Stand)
Have you tried hanging your hammock a little tighter? It may just be the angle of your picture (coupled with the size of the pic on my phone screen) but it looks like you have a lot of sag. Hanging a...
That thing is a beast! I have one similar, just made from 2x4s, and it is heavy! I hope you don't plan on moving it very often! Also, keep an eye on those 4x4s for cracks.
What is the weight limit on these?
Check out this 2x4 version. I've had mine for a few years now and it's great. It will hold at least 325lbs...

I (and many others here) have ordered from Redden Marine in WA. Shouldn't take long from here...

Just got an email from Amazon about a couple of carabiners that I bought. If you have any Black Diamond carabiners, check them out. Here's the info...

Cool video! Looks like you had a good time!
Not sure how good of a deal these are but thought I'd pass it along... I've ordered lots of stuff through them before & usually get a good deal, but shipping can eat up some of the savings.

I took my quilts down to 42° this morning wearing wool socks, polypro pants under shorts, a T-shirt and hoodie and fleece hat. I felt the occasional cool spot under me (nothing uncomfortable), but...
Check post #12 in this thread.
https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/115662-My-new-UQ-made-from-Costco-Down-throw-19-99/page2
Most folks (including me) use 1/8 shock cord. I used it on my full size Costco UQ and it hangs perfectly.
Lots of folks are making UQs from the Costco Down throws (myself included) for cheap. If you have a Costco with the throws nearby and access to a thread injectors, you can make a nice UQ for ~$25.
If you want the quickest & easiest mod, just sew grosgrain ribbon (either loops or channels) around the perimeter. Run shock cord through the loops/channels & you've got a nice UQ. Here's mine.

I went with the single layer because I'm 6'2" and wanted a full length UQ. Not sure where the 80/20 down/feathers comes from (I've seen those numbers mentioned in another thread) but there's nothing...
I like the look of that raftingtigger! I was trying to figure out a way to add another throw to mine in case I wanted to go to lower temps. I was fine in mine @ 62° last night with only a single...
