I received a pair of early prototype tarp keys and a prototype tarp cross from Bloomgorge to try on 1.75mm Zing-it. I was warned that, as prototypes, they may not work as well as the production keys...
Awww, he was a such a sweetie - keeping me and Turtlelady company. Tell him I still have his flower. Hope to see you both again soon!
Update: Here are just a few photos from the weekend.
And don't forget! "It's time for disco."
Oh man, that sounds delish. I'll bring some sausages and perhaps s'mores? Does anyone else want S'mores?
Showing up Saturday late afternoon/early evening.
Plaunius, the foldover design includes tab loops on each side so you can keep the organizer on the line using prussik knots, carabiners, nitze ize, etc. Ive successfully kept the organizer on the...
That's actually a great and practical suggestion! Especially with all this talk of zombie preparedness...
OK, count me in for the 17th to the 18th. I have a vehicle (Jeep Cherokee) and am willing to carpool anyone who needs a ride. PM me to work out arrangements. Can also bring reserve supplies as needed.
Hey thanks Ben! In the chaos of the move I forgot the organizers had a new name! Maybe I should come up with a cute little logo/sticker for them...
Hi all, the No-See-Um ridgeline organizers are back on sale at the following page: Ridgeline Organizers for Sale
Current inventory is between 12 and 15 organizers. Once the current stock is...
Ahh, I like it. Use it to convert others to the hammocking cause! Contingent upon having kids, a wife... or friends for that matter. :)
SlimJim, right on! When/If he comes to his senses and decides he really only needs one, I'll know just the place for him to sell it!
At the REI Attic Sale today the boyfriend (yes, the very same thieving one) found a barely used Hennessy Backpacker Hammock for $15.00. No rainfly, no straps, just the hammock. The tag read - and I...
If we headed up there today, I would have missed the Hillsboro REI gear sale! Now I'm all set with a new warmer sleeping bag for next weekend's trip. (Anyone else at the sale today?)
Hi Ryan! Welcome to the world of DIY, I'll try to answer your questions, and other users will probably chime in with their own answers as well. Hopefully together we'll be able to get things...
ROFLOL that's hilarious! A couple zombies just standing around moaning. Translation: "What are you guys in the mood for tonight? Tex-mex or chinese?"
I suppose a hammock could be a zombie...
Wow, interesting read and pretty darn entertaining, too! Had a few good chuckles. Thanks for making it so comprehensive. Those of us counting our ounces will be sure to consult your post when...
That sounds better. Less breezy at any rate. Thoughts on some of these? (Just the first page that popped up when I was browsing around) http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/tillamookstateforest/campgrounds.shtml
North coast would be preferred, perhaps Cape Lookout, Nehalem, or Fort Stevens? However, if weather is crummy we could try something inland along river/tributaries.
Finally nestled in to the parent's pad in Beaverton. Count me in! I'm free the 17th-18th. Love to meet some local hangers and attend my first hang!
Wow, awesome!! I'm really impressed by everything: the design, the light weight, how comfy it looks... I'd love to see a pic with someone inside the hammock, too - if only to show off that headroom....
Way to ensure you make it to 39 years!
From what I've gathered and experienced, tie-outs help to give you more room by pulling out the sides of the hammock - preventing a cocoon or mummy effect. I think they'd work in any sort of hammock....
These were so helpful to come across on the forum. Thanks for making them available for all to enjoy!
If you're going the asym route, the DIY Hennesey thread has the best tips and diagram for adding tie-outs. Found here: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=670
You can incorporate...
Yup, I'm a proponent of the opening on the inside as well. If you have the opening on the outside, the bottom layer will hang down (especially when the weight of the pad is pushing the bottom layer...
Hear hear! Thinner fabrics like 1.1 ripstop nylon can be tricky to get the thread tension right. But make sure you do! Do a few test runs on a piece of scrap fabric first.
Also, "Bad Bobbins"...
The best pics I've seen for the netting/zipper/gather interfaces is at the start of this thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11811
The netting is fixed and sewn under the...
Deep breath, you'll do fine! Making a hammock may seem like a daunting task, but once you get things going it actually comes together relatively easily. (Sometimes you have to see the pieces in front...
Haha, looks like that answers the question of making multiple sets of whoopies for your hammocks. Hope they work just as well as you hoped!
Hmm, there's plenty of food for thought here! Good to know that even if my seam sealing job wasn't the finest the tarp should be relatively storm-proof on its own. Looks like I may have to try it...
A quick update: There are currently no pre-made organizers available. I am in the process of making a cross-country move, and the sewing machine is getting packed away. Orders will start up again on...
Wow, that whipped end is a piece of beauty. Worthy of framing and selling to an art museum! (Ok, maybe textile museum? Craft museum? Any museum!)
I hear ya. It's hard to picture everything when you're just going off of videos, photos, and forum posts. But you'll be a pro when you've finally got the materials in front of you. The waiting...
I think it depends on how you're attaching the Whoopie slings. If you have gathered ends that you can loop the sling around - OR some sort of loop at the end that you can run the sling through - then...
Haha! That's hilarious! And the pictures make it all the better. Thanks for sharing your lesson learned for the rest of us to enjoy.
Received my WL Tadpole recently and am super excited! After a bit of a fuss seam sealing and covering it with talc baby powder... which I'm pretty sure is going to make it smell like fresh babies to...
Quick Note: All pre-made organizers are currently gone. I'm expecting a delivery of material tomorrow afternoon, so any orders placed today or tomorrow will ship on Friday! Thanks everyone!
In accordance with HF ToS I have created a separate website to sell the Ridgeline Organizers. (All previous posts have been deleted, so if you expressed interest in ordering, please contact me...
Interesting idea! You could definitely try it out and see what happens. As a safety mechanism, you could cut it longer than normal, so that the parallel sides are 11' long with the center "triangle...
Great question! I've always been curious about this myself. I do the forward-back-forward method too. Never tied the ends, didn't see a need to... I do have a problem of cutting my tails too long and...
Count me in! I could totally see this happening. There are ways to integrate images into podcasts, or even make a video-podcast. But would people be interested?
BAHAHA! I can just imagine that advertising scheme: "Introducing the new Verti-Hammock - the only hammock that allows vertical sleeping! Now YOU can sleep just as comfortably as your bear bag...
Thanks for the kind words everyone!!
If you're gonna be using your machine for a long while and a lot of projects, I'd prolly go with something a little nicer. BUT, for what it's worth, that's the exact machine I used to make my hammock.
Wow, 60oz?! Must be that "unique support web". Wonder what it's made of...
Maybe someday. I'd like to continue the DIY trend. However, I want a cat-cut tarp and am too nervous about making those curved cuts myself! (You see me with scissors, it's a pretty scary sight. ;) )...
Awww, thanks everyone!!
Yup, that's me cutting away all the hanging threads from the seams. Playing with scissors in a hammock seemed pretty crazy to me, too!
Haha!! I can see it now... I'll pull out my gear one day to find my hammock has "magically" transformed into a store-bought HH. And of course he'll have no idea how it happened or where the other one...
So I recently finished my very first DIY "Switch-Bird" hybrid hammock (details of which can be found here). Little did I realize the far-reaching impact my weekend of craftiness would have...
My...
