Black River Falls/Black River State Forest?
I think that is probably the best decision. Do keep this in mind. I'd still like to make a weekend up in the BRF area.
Here are some pixs my son-in-law Jared took (he really needs a trail name). These are shots from our hike in to Shelter 5 @ Greenbush in the Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit.

It was an awesome weekend. The weather was perfect!
I love my hammock but I'm always careful not to get it more than a couple of feet off the ground. I have a serious fear of heights. Sometimes I put my tarp up just so I don't have to look at the tops...
So, is everyone ready to go hang in the piney woods? See y'all this evening. Lorax, see you tomorrow. Hike dry my friends.
We can all relax now. They caught the guy.
Come on out this weekend and give that bad boy a try.
We wish you could be there too. It's going to be awesome!
Rbinhood, did you maybe mean to post this in the "Northern Wisconsin Spring Hang"? This is the thread for the SE Hang this weekend in the KMSF Northern Unit.
That's probably about the same time we'll be getting there.
Absolutely! It looks like we're at 5 on Friday night with you and your friend and 7 Saturday night. The permits allow us to go up to 10 at each shelter without any questions asked.
Now how did you know that I'm waiting on delivery of my brand spanking new camp stool from Jacks "R" Better that is due to be delivered today.
It must be a Georgia thing right :-)
If you can't make it to this one, come on down to the hang next weekend in the Kettle Moraine State Park Northern Unit. You'll find a thread under "Wisconsin Spring Hang". Although I really do want...
Boy would I like to do some of the SHT. Someday maybe.
Welcome from Wisconsin. We're kinda neighbors. Come on over. We're doing a hang in SE WI next weekend.
Tumbleweed goes back to when I was playing youth hockey in Texas as a young child and seem to do more rolling around on the ice than skating. Tumbleweed was taken so I went with Tumbleweedz.
This is hopefully the 1st of many. We look forward to meeting you.
That's why I'm bringing my two sons in law they'll be carrying me when need be.
CORRECTION, CORRECTION. I said Fri @ 4 and Sat @ 5. That's wrong! It's Greenbush, shelter 5 on Friday and Parnell shelter 4 on Saturday. Sorry for the confusion guys.
I am. And I know Jared still is.
OK, Pixelgator is in. You bringing the grits?
I've attached a map of the KMSF Northern Unit showing the two sites that we will hang at. Friday nite shelter 4 at Parnell Tower and Saturday nite shelter 5 at Greenbush. Like Lorax said, there's...
Let's stay connected regarding car pool. That's a long ride with 2 cars.
I might be able to make it depending on dates. It would be a bit of a drive from SE WI but I'd love to meet more folks and see the area.
I think a separate Vilas County hang is a great idea. I may subscribe to your thread and consider that one also depending on dates.
That was my thought too.
We are booked for Kettle Moraine State Forest (KMSF) backpack shelter #5 for 4/26 and #4 for 4/27. I have the confirmations in hand so now all we have to do if find out who all is in and make our...
OK, here's the deal. Right now shelter #5 @ Greenbush is available on Friday April 26th and #4 @ Parnell is available Saturday the 27th. It's about 3 miles between the two with lots of loops between....
Would you prefer Parnell Tower, Greenbush, or something else in the area (those are the only ones right?). Is there sufficient parking at both?
I don't think you've hi-jacked at all. By my calculation, we've got a lot of interest we just need to make some decisions. Where to go and when. First suggestion wins!
I paddle an old Penobscot and an ancient Grumman Big Chief, aluminum 17 foot circa 1952. Neither enough.
I've hung at the primitive site at Lapham Peak on the IAT. Also stealth camped at the shelter site near Greenbush. Both have a lot of potential for an overnight. Lorax knows a bunch more about the...
Tim, Thanks for all the info. Let's maybe shoot for something around there. Anybody else in?
I'm in Waukesha, only about a 1/2 hour drive. I've hung at Greenbush but not at Parnell.
We can't make the 22nd but thanks for the lead. It looks like an amazing spot and pretty much half way between WI & GA.
I'm headed to NC late May but the weekend of May 18th might work. Anybody else?
I've read a little about it but never hiked/hung there. Have you?
I'm open to ideas. Any thoughts? I've been sort of looking at Parnell Tower or Greenbush trails in the Kettle Moraine Northern unit. I'm also intrigued by Black River State Forest but I know...
My brother (lives in GA) and I (live in Wisconsin) are looking for a hike/hang somewhere half way between us. Can anyone recommend anything around the Lexington area? Or somewhere else in the area if...
I'm relatively new to hanging and am wondering if anyone is planning any hangs in SE/SW Wisconsin this spring. I'd really like to benefit from the knowledge/wisdom of other folks on this forum.
After spending another almost sleepless night last Friday night in the hammock, and not having $800+/- to spend on a nice portable system, I'd really like to hear more about the Provident system. Has...
I'm waaay down in the SE corner of WI but if I didn't already have a commitment for Friday and Saturday I'd be there. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe a little more to the center of the...
Been lurking for awhile. Time to get engaged. Got a SBP from my son-in-law for Christmas and began preparation for my first real trip. My brother has been hiking & hanging in GA for awhile so it was...
Thanks for the complement on the "hand modeling". I worked on that for a long time but I'm sure that was obvious. This was my first multiple night hike/hang. I will say that it was a challenge but it...
Thanks for the ridgeline stuff guys.
I just added a Big Agnes bag with the compatible air mattress (fits in the pocket in the bottom of the bag instead of loft). I love the system but I will say that I learned after spending last...
I ordered my toxaway last week and I can't wait. Do you have the pattern and info on your DIY snakeskins? I think I'd like to take a shot at that.
Just another noob from SE WI here. Got gear for Chrismas. Napped in the trees in the back yard but really looking forward to learning more. Like where to hang in SE WI.
