I can't answer your question about the D ring.
Regarding the being concerned about friction between the tarp and ridge line. I would not worry about it.

I'm WILL be there regardless of who shows up. The cabin fever is getting old. I might camp out somewhere this weekend.
Hey mugs...if Boomer does not make it, there will still be a Ridge Runner for there since i will be bringing mine. It's just not camo.
I'm curious. There seems to be much concern of spreader bars damaging tarps. Has any actully sustained such damage? Pics?
There's been some trails available for viewing on this site http://naturevalleytrailview.com/ for a while now. While some my be of the opinion that a flash mob of hikers my result from viewing these...
Yes i understand the appeal of whoopies. However, when you hang where the 3 foot long straps only reach 1/8th the diameter of the tree ultimately the whooopie will be cutting into the tree.
So...
I'll be heading over on Friday.
Anyone bringing fire wood?
Any chance you can edit the title of this thread to reflect the Feb 15-17 dates.
I know this is hard to believe....but i accidentally kicked my alcohol stove, this resulted in flaming fuel to splash all over my sil nylon tarp.:scared: The fuel simply burned out with no ill...
If it makes you feel better....i used to air out my hammock in the basement. The cat box is also in the basement....upon packing for a three day back packing trip i failed to notice the cat used the...
Get out and do at least 80 days worth of hiking. Do not do any 20+ mile days.
I kind of knocked off a bunch of bucket list trips last year. So i need to come up with some new bucket list trips....
I have no words to describe what got me into hiking. I'll use pictures instead to show what draws me to the North Cascades, yet pictures are an injustice.

Still if a Hennessy fits i see...

Wow. This thread has been around a while. I'm not seeing a date set yet.
Perhaps it's time to nail down a date.
I volunteer lots and lots of time to both national park and national forest lands. So naturally this means i spend lots of time with rangers. Some times a week at a time if i'm volunteering trail...

In a state famed for 300 days of creating moss draped temperate rain forests dripping with water, one only needs to drive about an hour to find this.

I have asthma and I'm generally exercise induced. Kind of counter productive to backpacking. I have good days and i have bad days. On good days i can do 20+ miles, bad days i'm lucky if i...
This weekend broke an uncharacteristic 80+ days of no rain in the notoriously rainy Pacific North West.
I was camped out on a high open ridge in the only patch of trees for miles suitable for...
Go ahead....laugh.....but let's see if yer laughing when you need to squat after say a 20 mile day in the North Cascades.
Wonder what it's made of, how much it weighs, does it pack down better...
priller is correct
I'm shooting with a Pentax K7. Lens used is a 18-55DA WR. Not my favorite lens, but for backpacking purposes is versatile and rugged. I don't have to worry about dirt of moisture with that lens. ...
One of the attractions to a bridge hammock is the simplicity of attaching and lack of fussing with the underquilt. It's not difficult, so I'm gonna call it the least easy point to attach underquilt...
Nestled in the North Cascades, Goat Flats is/was often the stopping point along the trail to Three Fingers Lookout. Goat Flats it's self is a worthy destination. I say "was" because mother nature,...
I had absolutely no condensation!
What? There are mosquitos down there that are large enough to bite through at least three layers of nylon not to mention inches of lofted down?:scared:
I got my first full night with the RR over the weekend. It dropped below freezing over night, had some freezing fog. I was SHOCKED how effective the sock was.

Uh Oh! Too bad i did not see this earlier.:( I could have planned on attending. Bummer.
When you've chosen to not stealth camp, and set up in a crowded camp ground. You can't take a nap because all the ground dwellers are wandering to your camp to check out your foreign contraption and...
Perhaps it's operator error on my part. I can't seem to remove the suspension lines one at a time from that little triangle piece. Reason i was trying to remove the lines one at a time, is it seems...
Jeezzz....at the sight of this news i immediately checked my checking account balance, before checking the Warbonnet Site.
Those same drip strings are also a handy tool for feeding the suspension lines through the tiny grommets on the spindrift sock.:D
Ugh....i did the Spider Meadow/Buck Creek Pass loop last year. Used the tent as i assumed i would be above the tree line most of the time. Each night i camped my tent was pitched next to two...
Last weekend was a 4 day 8 mile trip.
