I just threaded the...
Ya I looked at that, and that certainly has its advantages. I might go that route, but still getting into this all so trying to limit the spending and pieces to keep it simpler.
Is this the sort...
Well Pgibson, BrianWillan, engine386 you all make some sense, and I thank you for your responses.
Perhaps I was over-thinking it. I will just attach my whoopies directly to the hammock. If I end...
Changing out my stock ENO DN rope/biners. Want to use a continuous loop with a Larks Head (this part seems pretty standard around here), but then I want to larks head the fixed end of my whoopie...
That link isn't working for me so I am not sure which style suspension system you are looking for.
The vendor section of the forums lists several vendors that this community likes; many of which...
Just did my first night in a hammock, and the same thing was going through my head....until I fell asleep of course :)
That is great! I have been thinking of making a plastic sheet tarp just for this reason, but yours is SO much clearer! Going to have to make one like it.
New to hammocks; previously just tarp...
I am new to hammocks and after a good season (hopefully) with my Double-nest I might make my own hammock over the winter.
I had the same questions as you, and found the following page at Warbonnet...
We have a version of those where I grew up, and seeing those nests and all the movement inside makes me cringe.
I cannot imagine so many that is sounds like rain.
If it makes you feel any better I sort of go through the mechanics of learning to hike every year to slowly get conditioned, practice using my gear, test out equipment, and integrate new techniques. ...
I am new to soft shackles, but man are they great. I really need to get on doing my own splicing.
I have only seen the standard variety, but this looks to have some usefulness I might prefer.

I JUST bought this tarp, and it is the nicest tarp I have seen.
I mostly do summer camping, and if I think I can get away with it I won't use a tarp, but I still wanted one I can carry easily and...
That sounds horrible, but I love the idea. Sure is one hell of a fix if you can pull it off.
I carry Tit stakes, but given the conditions I will try and use something else for some experience.
I am sure there will be a day I will forget my stakes, and actually need them, and hopefully I...
I think this is the best intro tarp, and certainly a simple and easy DIY tarp. I used a painter's plastic cloth for my first 'tarp only' camping excursions (cause I made exactly how I wanted) years...
So glad this was asked! Wasn't sure what the sage advisers round here might have to say.
I threw some of these on a recent order because we have plenty of big trees, and often where I am I don't...
I am not sure if you are asking about how to keep the net out of your face or not, but that is how I understood it.
Pretty new round here, but It seems that most people avoid the netting in there...
That is some neat material. I wonder how much warmth you could retain in the cold with the reflective on the underside.
If I ever spend some serious money on a tarp I might have to do this, but it...
I like to use something to tie it tight (rolled or folded) then loosely attach the secured roll/folded pad to the pack. I tend to roll so the twine/rope I have gets tied in a sling style fashion...
Using them inside with lightweight packs works too well. I had a homemade pack that I had to do this with, but it worked great, and I thought/think it is a great efficient use of space.
Carrying...
My Grandpa climbed Mountains in corduroys with a wood and steel pick/axe, using natural fiber ropes, thick wool sweaters, and canvas tents with his old army stove/canteens and matches. (Probably not...
So 10$ off the original price posted? 70$ and 50$ respectively?
Well I just cannot ignore this. Wanted this jacket for awhile, and this is a good price.
I'll take it.
PM'ing you now
I think he means this stuff (like what pot cozies are made of), but some use the same silver cardboard stuff people put in their windshields to keep the car from cooking, and that could be used.
I...
WOW
That is a good price..90$!!!
Uhmm I might just have to. Then of course I need to test it rigorously in the name of science :)
Nice! I Have been eyeing one of those for awhile. Curious what you'll think of it after you get to break it in.
Does it come with a stuff sack?
Not sure how I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out to me!
Anyone know the weight on these tarps?
I am having a hard time finding them listed anywhere.
HAHA, that was a good laugh!
Bears in hammocks. Too funny, and as long as one doesn't try to share my hammock I'll laugh at every vid of it I see.
Absolutely!
Thinking I will use one pad lengthwise, and then my shorter one (for ground I used it to double up my trunk) side ways. Kind of like a T. It is a start. Gonna have to see what works...
Sure is a good idea! I might have to whip some of these up from spare material. Certainly wouldn't add much to my load, and therefore couldn't hurt.
I didn't even think about my sides, but if I am...
Just wanted to say thanks everybody this was the thread that finally got me to understand what the continuous loop was used for, and thus where I can attach a structural ridge-line (to the the...
My teens and early twenties I always went out hiking. Never really liked the lightweight options for camp furniture, and lightweight solo tents get to be really spendy if it is JUST about the weight...
Thanks for answering! Sounds like I am mostly good to go on equipment then. Have pads (seems the ground is getting harder and bumpier than I recall it being when I was younger) so I will make the...
Looks like several members have suggested a pad can be used into the 30's (roughly and person make/model depending)
Thanks everybody!
You certainly are represented all over the place!
Trying out in the backyard is one of my first priorities. Have two big trees about 16 feet apart. Think I can swing it even...
I used to hike and live out of a backpack as often as I could, but years went by and life happened. I have been getting back into it over the last year, and was given my first hammock.
I had...
