I'll be there. I think RedhawkTX got us some trees...
I started using 1850# mule tape for my tarp huggers while camping in CO last month. No slip, and no bark damage at all (I found amsteel and zing-it both can crease / divot bark).
Best thing was...
I think people tend to be skittish of stuff they don't understand, and putting "bug b dead" on one's clothes can be a bit counter intuitive.
I made up a batch last night and nuked all my gear for...

Sweet pics, Chorpie!
I'm headed to Southern CO next week to escape TX heat and test some new gear. Hopefully, I'll get some decent pics too, if the smoke stays away:eek:
I have the Noah's...
I've used Zing-it for Prussics on Amsteel, and on Zing-It guylines. You may need an extra wrap to ensure a good hold, but it's worked great in my experience...
I had jokingly considered making a Slatt's Rescue belt from Zing-It. Now, I have to. But I can quit any time I want...
If they only made a hammock with room service...
Anyone else using chain links (continuous loops) to replace their stock ropes?
I originally did the straight whoopie double-pass-thru conversion. Decided I didn't like having my options limited...
Hmmm...
Sounds like we need to make a combo ridge line organizer / sail to capture the breeze for a Wind Harnessing Optimal, Oscillating Bi-directional Utility Device for Dirt-dweller envY.

I can't say that it would double anything, other than protection against flying vampire bugs. The lighter the fabric, the more fragile it is. However, the pad sleeve aspect is another potential plus....
Funny you should mention buckskin. Leather working has become my other addiction, er, hobby. It's amazing how one can disassemble hide with 1 or 2 tools, but it takes 10-20 to put it back...
Supply Captain is definitely a great source. Very good prices and selection...
I actually have a couple pieces of cord I keep on the nightstand now to fiddle with when I can't sleep. Sometimes practice tying knots in the dark just to see if I can. It's always nice when wifey...
I have the Sea to Summit liner and have used it alone down to ~68F. Silk will add 6-10F of warmth when used as an inner layer (can't remember exactly where I read that), but is much like the ripstop...
REI is a VERY DANGEROUS place. Messes with your brain chemistry.
By way of example: My wife's daughter is a self-proclaimed city girl. Her idea of camping is no room service. Went into the local...
Thanks for the heads up!
I'll be sure to verify the weight before any purchase and let everyone know if I find the real deal...
I'm wondering if it would make a nice UL dual layer hammock, provided it'll hold up to wear.
Any of you DIY gurus ever tried it?
I love my Noah's 12'. It's not ultralight, but is practically bomb proof, more versatile than a 9' and not much more to manage.
You have the option of doors if you pitch it steep and tight, and a...
+1 on the ENO DN. I tend to go on 'spin cycle' when I sleep, and I can wallow all over the thing w/o issue.
That said, you can't go wrong with either model...
I can't quit cold turkey. Besides, if I sent you all my cord, what would I tie the parcel up with?
It's getting bad though. Wifey sneezed earlier today and I swear I said "Klemheist"...
Redhawktx and I are planning a mountain hang in the next 2-4 weeks to escape the TX heat.
Considering NM and / or CO, from around Red River area to Pagosa Springs (Williams Creek). Will consider...
Thanks Tracy... I just had a flashback of a Cheech & Chong skit. Only this one was called "Let's Make A Rope Deal, with Bob Stitchin".
And if one more person asks me if Amsteel Blue is a light...
Hi. I'm Mark and I have a cordage addiction...
Stopped by Omaha Surplus in Ft Worth today on the way home from work, just because...
Passed the 1/16" poly bin. Three times! Mental checklist...
7' for corners, 12' for pull outs. Gonna add some 4-5 footers for doors when I pitch that config...
*** Edit - Forgot to add that I made mine with fixed loops on either end. If I have an odd...
+1 for Redden. I've used them for a few orders and they are very fast and customer-oriented.
Knotty beat me to the punch. You could hang my Suburban with a pair of those things, so relax and enjoy! The trees will probably uproot before you get dropped:lol:
I picked up some of the loosely braided stuff at Ace Hardware. They call it Braided Synthetic Rope. 1/8". I had no problem using it for practice splices (buries, brummels, etc.) and made some guy...
Not sure which is more disturbing, the Amsteel butt floss, or Shugdutch :scared:
Owl,
Thanks for the endorsement. The voices in my head do present novel ideas on occasion...
I was pondering this situation more last night. I don't have apnea, sleep fine on my back or my...
Interesting thread. I thought I was the only one that had this "issue". I've noticed that every time I hang, my 'visits' double (or triple). I think it's a temp / wind thing.
Or maybe it's a...
After seeing several threads illustrating the ignorance of policy makers and enforcers, perhaps a hammock camping advocacy group is a good idea.

I tried the pad in the liner route. no room to move around at all. Pad under liner worked fine, except for the slip 'n slide feeling...
Actually used a silk liner with just my space blanket (heavy...
As Opie stated, no real need to protect Amsteel from itself. Only caveat would be in a situation of heat-generating friction.
That said, I have played around a bit with 550 paracord sheath as a...
It's nice to be considered a nut job by the neighbors. They're much less likely to bother you ;)
Plus, you might just get one curious enough to join our gnarly little band of levitators...
Lots of junipers, cedar, and pine in TX too. Orange oil works good...
Anyone try Scotchguard as a preventative?
"Alcohol *'should'* work too if you are desperate."
For us, or the ants?
+1 for florist wire.
I have a spool of the green wire (24 gauge) for amsteel and other larger cord. For the small stuff like zing-it, lash-it, etc., I use the smaller 30 gauge florist wire. Works...
I have a roll of Zing It that I've spliced for many things (tarp ridge, guy lines, soft biners, etc.), without any issues at all.
I use the very thin (30 gauge silver) florist wire for my fid /...
Got an email ad from the Clymb today. The are having a a sale on Kelty gear, including the Noah's 12.
Member price under $35. :)
Though I'd pass the info along in case anyone was looking for a...
Verrrry interesting product /concept.
Any idea if you could layer two of them together, perhaps with another material sandwiched between, without reducing the internal volume too much?
As far...
Just found this link today:
http://www.neropes.com/SPL_12Strand_EyeSpliceBrummel.aspx
It creates a single-ended locked Brummel, much as the McDonald. The difference, per the illustrations, is...
Thanks to everyone for great weekend. I really enjoyed meeting everyone, and testing my current gear under chilly conditions. Methinks I have some work to do:eek:
See you in the trees...
Mark
I am interested in seeing how these critters work, and possibly adding one to the kit. Would appreciate any experience you have in that area!
Mark
My domestic event coordinator has blessed (okay, she didn't prohibit...) my participation. I'll be hanging neighbors with redhawktx. It's my fault he's doing this elevated camping thing anyway, so I...
I've seen you on that stuff. NOT a good plan:lol:
