I think my crapy pictures are confusing people. Its actually a really simple rig. I will draw it on a peice of paper and hopefully that helps.
There are just so many ways to peg out a tarp...the rig I put together is sweet because it makes it easy to pull pegs out of the ground, hard to lose a peg, and easy to adjust tension.
You see I...
Here are the pics.
I hope the pics come through...im using an app from my phone.
So here is version 2.0. I went back to 7/64 Amsteel.
So I have a woopie hook spliced in on the head end (my first splice)...and...
Thats great...I cant wait to hear back from you. Today is ny last day of work...tonorrow I will take some pics of version 2.0 and repost.
I have actually made a couple mods since my original post.
I stopped double lining dynaglide and I am just using a single strand of 7/64 amsteal now.
Although the picture looks like i am on the...
Hey Everybody,
Its been a while since I posted about the triangle suspension...just wondering if anyone has tried it yet? :)
Hey Everybody,
Here is a question for ya...cost and availability aside.
Dyneema vs Vectran vs Technora...which is theoretically the ultimate choice for Hammock Suspension and why?
Well I hope lots of people enjoy it for its ease of adjustability :)
But I think the rig will appeal a lot to noobs like myself because it reduces the number of adjustments and compensative...
It depends on if i'm using my big Hammock Gear winter palace tarp...or a small tarp.
The winter palace tarp can go over the top of the triangle no problem.
But if i'm using a smaller tarp that...
You adjust the length of the dynaglide (size of the triangle) with the marlin spike hitch :)
So if the trees are close together...you can shrink the triangle up accordingly.
Hototo...its great that your going to try it out.
Cant wait to hear your feedback :)
I really hope a lot of forum members give it a try...I can't explain explain it very good so its best to...
Remember...there is no need to use a double strand of dynaglide like I did. You can you a single strand of amsteel just as easily...or a single strand of dynaglide just as easily.
The heart of...
I have to admit I don't know much about the other types of suspension you mentioned...but here are the reasons I settled on this style.
easy easy easy :)
By folding the dynaglide in halfe and...
Here you can see how I switched it from sleep mode to lazyboy recliner mode...but without touching the marlin spike hitch or making any adjustments with the elephant trunks.
I just slide the whole...
Note the loop used for the marlin spike hitch...for the sake of safety.
And for those who prefer a lighter alternative...you can just go straight through the sewn loop of your strap too.
Ok here we go.
You see, as a noob, I found that I have a hard time dialing in my suspension to get a proper lay...too many adjustments...no doubt mostly due to lack of experience...but also I...
This one actually broke in half.
And yes...I was on the knot...not the toggle :)
I'm not so sure about carbon toggles eh.
Yesterday I got my new ones in the mail...and today I already managed to break them :(
The marlin spike hitch does squeeze the toggle a fair bit...so...
There seems to be a tremendous number of Dutch fans :)
I like the dutch buckle a lot...but I also really like the elephant trunk a lot. The elephant trunk is the same weight as the triangle cinch...
It seems to me that no matter what your suspension system is...at some point you need to connect webbing to amsteel.
Whether its a whoopie sling to a tree strap via a marlin spike...
Hardware throw down...whats your favorite way to connect a tree strap to amsteel...and why? :)
I'm not sure if the attached picture came through...but here is whats on my hardware list. I have...
It must be super expensive to prevent people with "hammock madness" from purchasing them?
Ballpark...what would say a six foot dyneema tree strap cost a guy?
How come nobody uses Dyneema webbing for tree straps?
So it seems to me that other than the ultra light dyna glide useres that a suspention system between 100 to 150 grams is pretty much paar for the course.
120g nice :)
With all that said...I have one admission that I have to make...which I'm sure wont agree with many of you.
I'm a whoopie sling virgin...I know...i'm sorry...but I ruled it out because I believe...
Suspension...how much does your complete system weigh?
So I have been working on my own flavor of suspension. I know that there are all sorts of proven suspension systems out there...and I thank...
Just you wait till I post my new rig...I'm pretty sure its going to change the world. :)
Thanks for all the great replies everybody :)
I just love how "into it" everybody gets...love it.
I most certainly am over thinking my suspension system too much...I've been trying to work out...
Where I live the trees aren't really huge or anything...so the total length of the loop would only need to be like 24 to 36 inches end to end.
But with that said maybe a big loop isn't really the...
Hey Everybody,
I have a nooberific question for you all. When it comes to tree straps...what is theoretically considered to be the stongest and lightest way to make a strap?
Sewn or knotted?
...
I can't say I have encountered too many leaches. I mostly just try not to tip out of the canoe to manage that though :)
kayaks are cool, but I like the storage capacity of a Canoe.
Mine is a...
Yup...call Adam...he is awesome. He helped me out a lot.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys :)
Hey Everybody,
I'm new here so I just thought I would take a moment to introduce myself...and hopefully run into a person or two from my area to "hang" with :)
I used to go tenting and fishing...
