Thanks for your help guys. I didn't realize top quilts have this added benefit.

Hi,
One minor thing I'd like to get around is how my down sleeping bag tends to crowd my face and takes up space when I'm trying to read and move around in my hammock.
It seems I tend to have...
Thanks for your input and comments guys. It's great to see that this thread generated a bit of interest.
Yeah, like a bed pan.
That sounds like a pretty cool setup. I don't think I would have thought of the chainmail approach and most of the other things.
Good idea with the SS trees :)
Here's an interesting NOAA link. It shows the predicted path of the hurricane.
This shows Friday at 2 pm. You can click the link below for the latest updates.

Thanks everyone for your input. I've enjoyed reading your comments.
I hope it continues the stories are very interesting and educational.
And funny! :)
With your van parked inside or outside of your garage :)
Here in Northeast Mass I thought I'd practice setting up if we got some stormy weather out of Hurricane Irene. I could either practice setting up in foul weather, or pitch a tarp beforehand to see...
Thanks. I sometimes enjoy the rain while hammocking too.
I often look forward to those times while car camping or in the yard to sleep in the rain. Two weeks ago I was car camping in NH and it...
I watched a video today taken from under a Cuben Fiber tarp when it was raining. I was surprised to hear how loud it was.
Silnylon tarps seems much quieter and would allow for more of the...
Thanks for everyone's input. Sorry about the "phone pad" error :)
I'm still leaning heavily towards getting a nice down underquilt.
I was thinking about cutting my foam pad into sections that will fit snugly in the pockets of my Clark for insulation.
I find it uncomfortable if I sleep directly on the pad itself.
Has anyone...
Great picture at the pond!
Thanks Jim. That's pretty much what I did after my last post.
And then I got a really bright idea: Reading the owner's manual!
Something I only glanced at when I first got the hammock in 2008....
I tried a Clark bar too, but now I use a Whatchamacallit.
I'm jealous.
I've been busy trying to get the perfect hang with my NX-250, and I'm curious how people are using their Clarks.
Last year I pulled it really tight, until is was level, and then backed off just a...
This was taken off the coast of Massachusetts. I managed to get this shot.
I'm not really a photographer. Actually, I think I was the only one there using a flash most of the time :)

Those temps sound pretty good for a first hang. You may want to err on the safe side with insulation for underneath the hammock. Maybe bring something extra.
Of course, this comes from a person...
I like the idea of re-purposing things like this. Plus is has a cool factor.
Thanks. The clips are commonly used in the boat canvas industry, to hold fabric in place while you're fitting a cover.
I tried out my "system" right there in the enclosed porch down to 27F the...
Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time :)

I'm in. Great idea.
Thanks!
Nice! I've been telling my friends that kids love hammocks. Maybe this will help convince them to consider getting one.
Thanks Bubba. I checked out the site and the pole idea looks pretty good. I'll probably be looking into this. Because Clarks take up a lot of space it can help here as well.
Narca, thanks for the...
Thanks Bubba. I didn't realize the number of different ways you can work with ridge lines. I'll be experimenting with these a bit this weekend.
When you say a pole mode would be good for my...
Thanks guys. This is a big help.
Bubba, I am using a continuous ridge line beneath the tarp.
Thanks Brian for telling me about the 2QZQ pole option. My Clark hammock will take up more space...
Thanks Shug. This is great. I'll check out the vid.
Thanks. It took me a second to figure out your tip, but now I got it! Hopefully I'd have enough tarp to work with.
This is my first real setup and I was wondering if someone could give me some feedback or advice on my tarp. I noticed that the tarp sagged somewhat.
Inside is a Clark Jungle Hammock (made just...
Thank you everyone for your helpful comments. Somehow my instant notification for this thread wasn't turned on, so I wasn't able to respond to some posts.
I'm learning a lot from this thread and...
Thanks.
I like the sleeping comfort of a hammock, but also the secure feeling I get when using a tent. A few minutes ago I saw images here on the forum that might help me along. They were of the...
About 2 years ago I decided to purchase a hammock (Clark Jungle) and I thoroughly enjoy the great night's sleep I get in one. However, when I went car camping last year the idea of confining myself...
Great! Thanks-I'll look into it.
Thanks. That's just what I had in mind. Now I just need to figure out the best material to use for the poles.
I have an industrial sewing machine that I can use to create small pockets on either...
I like to read while in my Clark and thought of a way to make it more roomy inside when using the weathershield. Has anyone found a way to create 2 bows, one at the head and the other at the foot of...
Thanks for checking the site. I'll try a couple more times. In the meantime I'll check out Berkeley Point.

I've tried www.onrope1.com off and on for about a week now but the site doesn't come up. Can anyone recommend another place to buy the cinch buckle?
Thanks Bill. No problem about the slow reply. It was took me over a month to notice a message for me in a windsurfing forum.
I tried the www.onrope1.com site but it's not working. I'll try again later. Thanks.
Hello. I send a PM to the person that posted this image but I haven't heard back from him. Does anyone know where I can find the buckle in the image at the link below?

regarding the white warm material at Joann's..I think it won't breath like other materials. Also, shopping bags are made of polyethylene.
I'm considering making my own quilt as well, for my Clark. The first time I heard of people using sythentic insulation it was in a BPL forum.
Below is a link to the thread, which also gives great...
This sounds like it could be an interesting experiment. I like the tubular webbing approach because the snaps can unsnap if put under pressure in some cases. I'd say the webbing is there to stay.
Great information, thanks. Evryone has helped start me off to a good start. The custom tarps really do look nice. At the same time, I won't dismiss my stock tarp. I guess I just need to use it in...
Thanks. The reason I had a negative impression is because I read a post where someone was very unhappy with it. Admittedly, it does look small in the photos when set up.
I would like a little...
My research tells me that the "factory shipped" tarp with my hammock is grossly inadequate in terms of size. After looking at some of the photos in this forum and reading some threads I am convinced...
Hi Moski. I speak babble.
It sounds like you had the same idea in mind. Did you find that it made the Clark Hammock more comfortable?
Hi. I own an NX-200.
The bars I have in mind can be made with aluminum tubes/pipes. The ends of each bar, the bar being probably a foot or so long, would have a snap stud and the snap would be...
