I've had good luck with "Bronco" equine spray. Got it at TSC, has a high permethrin content, as well as a few other anti-bug chemicals. They advise it safe for use on dogs as well, so my friend is...
IIRC, Amsteel is too slick for a traditional prussik, I think some people have found an alternative, myself, I ran a pair of guylines with Figure-9s on them, and I run my tarp on it's own suspension...
Excellent repurposing, and it looks classy too. ;)
I switched to whoopie-slings, but prior to that, I just took a 6" chunk of mason's twine and tied a dangling string on either suspension line, about an inch before the body of the hammock. Instant...
So then were you just announcing this as a PSA?
You seemed pretty quick to shoot down every piece of advice and just respond with "Nope, that won't work. Quilts aren't for me"... .Well if you...
^ Seconded, I can do an 11lb load with my entry level gear for a summer trip. I was surprised when I weighed all my gear... I'm looking at roughly $100 per pound to keep shaving weight, and it goes...
Yeah, reading pwns me, I just looked at the page again, and saw where it said that in the description. Thanks. :)
Just curious on the difference in weight, or stuff size between the 800 fill and the 900 fill.
^ Seconded. At 6' I find my Expedition to be a little short, and I'm not very bulky at 165. It's not uncomfortable, but I would be happier with a little more room to get a flat lay.
You're not missing anything. I still live here. :P
Looks like a great trip. Those last two pics were mindblowing!
I'm just on the other side of the boarder, if you ever find yourself in Canadanadaland feel free to toss me a message.
^ 6-6.5" for your fixed eye, and 10" for your adjustable bury is concidered the standard accepted lengths.
I'm very envious of you being able to get out like that on horses and experience the wilderness. Looks amazing.
Very dig it. I'm breaking into climbing, and have been really impressed with the Black Diamond equipment... They seem to be doing some cool things.
I love innovation just as much because it drives...
Shug is an excellent resource for cold weather hammocking too. He's been down way cold.
*giggle* I'm completely surrounded by Crown Land, but it's an 8h drive for you folks :P
..There're quite a few of us here from Ontario...
^ I'd rather get up for the second one, but HYOH...
I have an Expedition and the pouch on the ridge line is perfect. I keep my knife, keys, lighter, smokes in there, larkshead my head lamp onto...
I've got about a dozen now. I keep my Amsteel looped on the side of my toolbox in the garage, whenever we're hanging out out there I usually tie up a few, they're just so fun to make.
I did my...
That "double dragon" looks like an Angler's knot to me, but I'm not really all that knot savvy compared to a lot of guys on here...
Does a bowline not hold in Amsteel? I've tied one and it seemed...
I agree with Raul, HH Expedition, with the side zip, under $170, gives you a rain fly and bug net, everything you need, structural ridgeline... The stock suspension is a bit bulky but works well...
I agree with the 3 tree approach, my buddy that I hike with regularly, and I do this so we have a common, dry area between the hammocks, and we can still conversationalize before bed. If you're cozy...
And another hello from Northern Ontario.
Welcome from the other side of the big girl.
Sounds awesome! Do you also hike barefoot, or just the little one?
I just did a 20km in and out last weekend with my new Vibram FiveFingers and I absolutely loved it. My feet aren't quite tough...
^ Mine is pink, braided, from Home Despot too, but I spent hours trying to get it to splice and couldn't. I've had a lot of success with other hollow braided lines but the weave on the stuff I found...
I agree, I'm 6' and I have the Expedition, it's decent, and I can get a good night's sleep, but I'll be moving to a Blackbird towards the end of this season (recovering from a lot of gear...
I find it stretches quite a bit. Especially while wet, but as timabababaluka said, just use an adjustable/sliding knot and you can tighten it down. Also, I don't know where guys are finding the stuff...
Thanks for the response. Everyone I dealt with was pleasant, but I think it might've had to do with Leslie just getting started in the position. Like you mentioned, it's pretty hard to easily place...
Found the communication lacking, and was unable to process my international order. Ended up getting some line through Backwoods Daydreamer. I paid a little bit more per foot on the line, but his...
^ Awesome!
I need me some Dutch Hooks soon...
I think some of it can be attributed to the feeling of being exposed that a lot of people mention.
My stock asym fly was about 4" above my hammock rigline when I got in it (touching when I...
Appreciate the discount! Placed my order via email (international shipping), just waiting on a reply to complete the transaction :D
My buddy was there, it's on my list. I really hope to hit Shambhala again next year though...
Spent Sunday night in a thunderstorm. I loved it. I was cozy and dry in my hammock, with my tarp pitched nice and low. Looking forward to getting a little more coverage than the stock fly so I can...
Ok, so this was a chuckler at the start, then when the second post was "Yeah I did that too", I really laughed.... Junk-shots are only ever funny when they happen to someone else... Hope everything...

Easy to make. I did a few for practice and I plan on making a dozen or so when I get my amsteel in.
Further to that point, whoopie slings are a common upgrade. I'm using stock HH suspension with tree straps, and I'm replacing it with nacrabeiners and whoopie slings. Weight, space, and most...
I can't say I really have a problem with mine, I just leave them overlapped about an inch on the middle and just leave the excess bunched up on the length of it and at the other end, but HYOH. You...
I think the GrizzBeak pretty much accomplishes that, or any of the tarps with "doors" really... Not *exactly* what you've described, but probably the most suitable option for a hammock.... I'm not...
More than good enough for me, Shug. I'm all about eyeball measurements, I just needed a ballpark... Now to sack up and order some CF.
^ And I consider myself even lucker that I have it less than 45min away. :D
Always cool to see the other end of the ol' girl.
Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing!
Certainly is :D 370,000Km and still goin strong. I love my little diesel. She just got me across the country to BC and back this winter.
Yeah that's our local ski resort, it's not very big,...
Good to know. What's the length of your short sides (Bottom edge)? I think I'll just buy some raw CF and go at it (after I practice my shape on something cheaper first)... I like DIY stuff...
...
Shug that's EXACTLY what I'm looking for as far as a tarp. Both size and cut. I want some info too! ...And I think I want it in Cuben. :D:D
Neat, I'll have to check that out :)
^ lol I'm not sure you could go much smaller than the stock fly and still cover your whole hammock. That said, I'd feel comfortable under the stock fly for the late spring to early fall season in...
^This, and by the sounds of your determination, I have a feeling you'll complete the trek some day sooner than later.
Thanks beep, I can definitely see the diference now between what I saw on the link, what it is, and what the Aarn is. I'm still breaking into backpacking so any and all information is excellent.
