Actually, if I am expecting a storm, I see no reason to set the tarp lower than the hammock. Maybe on the side the storm is coming from, but ventilation is nice in bad weather.

I use another method to determine how high I hang. I want the hammock to be a comfortable chair height when I sit in it. This makes it easier to get into and out of.
