I haven't had any problems with bugs, and I have been out lots of times when they were out. It closes up just fine once you are in and your feet are off to the side.

Here are some pics of the Green Lantern for you. I tried to take all kinds for you, and I hope these help.
The slit does need to be longer than you would think. I first cut mine short, and it ripped on me the first time I tried it out. I reworked it, by making it long all the way to my rear end, and now...
Here is the thread talking about my DIY bottom entry hammock. Weight and easiness are big things for me, so when I needed a bug net, and didn't want to carry my Claytor or my HH, I decided to make...
I put fold, but all I really do with my hammock is roll it up really small with my webbing and then stuff it in my pack. I usually leave my Underquilt attached, and if it is on, then I roll it up...
Looks good, and a really good job on the sewing. I know that it should keep you plenty warm to 20*, so have fun trying it out!
Welcome Phil,
Sounds like you have the basics down, and you will learn a lot hanging for a month in Sweden. Have a great hang :)
Ok here are the pics ;) I have it in a Sil Stuff sack, but it isn't stuffed by far and compresses very nicely.
I guys, I haven't posted in some time, but I made a new quilt a few weeks ago for Summer and it is working out great.
I made it using 1.1oz ripstop and then by cutting off a very thin layer...
I have an 8'X10' tarp and a 10X12, and for some reason I always carry the 10X12. It only weighs a few ounces more, and the extra coverage is great. I say go with the bigger.
I like Cat Cuts, but that is because I have a wife that sews them for me. I can sew a silnylon tarp in about 15 minutes, but do not ask me to hem cat curves. If you are a beginner DIYer and do not...
Hey East,
I have a lot of that same material, but I have never made a hammock from it. I thought once that I would make a double layer one, but I have so many hammocks that I didn't waste my...
Sounds like yall had a great time, I wish that I could have made it. Burning Cedar is a great guy to have around. Can't wait for the pics :)
Thanks, it has been a long time :)
It was with a single layer 5oz Climashield Under quilt, and with a single layer 5oz Climashield top quilt. I also has my 10X12 cat tarp pitched low with both ends closed up to keep the wind out.
Base layer thermals, moisture wicking shirt, windproof fleece with hood on, acrylic beanie, gloves, wool socks, and nylon convertible hiking pants.
My low with a single layer of 5oz Climashield XP is 16*F. That is with a car windshield sun deflector as a pad, and then of course my clothes, but I stayed plenty warm all night long.
I only tack quilt my top quilts, my under quilt I just sew the edges and hang it underneath. I have had no problem with this set up now for 3 years. My top quilt would probably be fine without it,...
I am soo sorry that I missed this thread. I love the Buffalo and have hiked ithe BRT now a lot of times. I just got back home from a group hike of the Eagle Rock Loop and there were a lot of us...
My wife has pink 1" seatbelt polyester from strapworks for her suspension ;)

Any way you want, that is a lot of room for two people. I use a 10X12, and my son and I fit under it very nicely. Most of the time we use 2 trees, side by side, but it works well with 3 trees too. ...
http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery/files/4/7/8/dsc00084_thumb.jpg This pic is my son's and I's hammocks hung side by side using the same 2 trees.

How about tyvek, or .7mm plastic? Both are cheap and waterproof.
I had my ipod with me on this hike, and I never used it, I just sang to myself. I am preparing for another hike of this size, but I have to wait for the weather around here to settle down, we have...
I was using my well broken in Saucony trail runners, with liners and smart wool socks. Yes, next time I will be using my Injinji socks as liners and my smart wool as outers ;). I will also use my...
Let me know how breathable it is. I have always wondered, but I thought that I would still be in a bath of my own sweat :scared:. I like the width though.
Dwight
Gunn,
I use an ULA Conduit as well, and I use 5oz. Climashield XP quilts. They and my hammock take up about half of my pack, and my base pack weight is 8-9 pounds. You can look in my...
I have done parts of the Old River Trail, but only in the fall when the water levels are lower. It is a great trail, just watch out for water moccasins this time of year and in the Summer.
East...
Sounds great, the Buffalo River is one of my favorite Backpacking spots. Great trips!
Dwight
It will keep water off of you for a while, especially if it has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) added to it, but eventually it will start to leak. If you are worried about cost or availability, you...
I posted it,and here it is.
Dwight
Pretty easy, 2 pieces of fabric, Climashield inbetween, all sewed together :)
I cannot remember the dimensions off hand (Maybe 72"X42"-48"). The ends have a channel sewn in so that some shockcord...
I was totally off base. A long time ago a person posted that they made knotted net hammocks, but after searching and searching I cannot find those posts. Sorry?
Dwight
It is a ripstop bottom, with netting sewed on top. It is the one in my gallery, in the gallery pic, it has my UQ attached to it.
Here is a fixed link to the thread, sorry
Dwight
That is my favorite part as well. Buffalo Adventures is a really gret place, everyone speaks well of them on Arkansasbackcountry.com. I hope you have fun on your hike, stay safe.
Dwight
I made this one the other day. I sewed the bug netting to the hammock body itself (only on the sides though), and then cut a slit in the middle to make it a bottom entry like an HH. I then ran a...
hung up on my hammock line.

I am glad that you got a chance to try out the hammock, I am glad that it worked out for you.

My son and I hang all the time in our 10X12 Cat Tarp that my wife makes. We have hung side by side using the same trees, and using 3 trees. We have plenty of coverage, and I wouldn't be afraid to...
5oz Climashield XP is great stuff, I have yet to be cold in my quilt set that my wife has made me. Sounds and looks like a good time.
Dwight
If I am by myself and in the Summer with little rain predicted, I like an 8X10. That said, I almost always carry my 10X12 ;)
Dwight
I carry one as a frame for my ULA Conduit, and if I need to, I put it in my Underquilt to give me a little more inulation. It is not substantial, but it works great in the Summer all by itself for...
When I did my yo-yo there was water everywhere, but I was moving fast. All the campgrounds have water faucets, and all the creeks/streams are filled right now. There is probably a lot of run off...
I have heard that Buffalo Adventures are realy good and cheap! I have never used a shuttle before, but my friends used these people a few months ago and were really happy. I think they charged $30,...
Kyles to Ponca is 9.8 miles. It is not a loop, so you would have to back track, but that would make 19.2 miles. If you PM me your email address, I will send you a BRT spreadsheet that on of my...
You could start at Kyles Landing and do a loop to Ponca and back. You could do a hike from Boxely to Erbie, or Ponca to Pruitt. I love this trail because the options are limitless. The power...
I just finished yo-yoing the trail in 3 days a few weeks ago. It has all been nicely cleared, but my favorite part would be Steel Creek to Kyles. How many miles are you planning? Would you need a...
Hey guys,
Here is a pic of my new DIY bugnet hammock. I made it a bottom entry so that I wouldn't have to sew a zipper on it. It weighs next to nothing, but I have not officially weighed it yet....
I accidentally voted wrong too. I use my 10X12 cat tarp all year, especially if I am with my son. I have been thinking about carrying my 8X10 this summer though, but that will only be when I am...
Looks good, and it looks like it was harder to post all those links than to make the tarp. After a while Cat cuts are not that hard anymore. The real fun comes from roll hemming the entire thing...
