Have some strong straps, hammocks bounce.
Got some good hang time for the night. Sorry it took so long for me to post but family life got busy. Sorry I wasn't able to meet with other forum members on the way, but a heat wave hit and I had to...
That's exactly what I was thinking. Ranger was likely on a power trip pulling "rules" out of his arse.
One thing I think that they really need to get hot on is the bears marking trees with their...
Just going about 30 miles south on I-24. Looks like it will be Saturday though. I am wary because of the flash flooding.
Thank you, just sent mine. :)
Went with a 10x12 cheapo until I get payed next, but I was wondering if that is too big, and if so, what size do I need?
Thx!
Going to go pick up a mastiff south of Nashville. I will be bringing my gear so this will be my first overnight hang. Would love to hook up even if it's just for a handshake and an iced tea!
Too much light to sleep by and I could never get comfortable in a car. I do however enjoy the shower rooms. Motels are out of the question most the time, as I feel I'm being hustled for money.
That is one thing I have always liked about Canada. In some ways they are more free than the USA.
By renegade I mean pulling off the road at a rest stop or other non traditional camping spot (side of road, park, etc). Ever been harassed even if it was just for the night?
There has been a few...
Yes, I am retired military (DAV), but my earlier tenting days was homeless before I got my VA benefits. So I have lived on little to nothing but that was without a family.
Two more... the boys can share one! :D
Thanks on the pics!
Thanks! :)
Lived in Bellingham for about 4 years. Great place! Larrabee State Park would be a great place to hang. Enjoy!
I was kind of skeptical about getting the doublenest just for myself, but I have heard that others prefer roomier as well for pads, bags, and other gear.
Well, got the ENO Doublenest in the mail today and was really impressed! I didn't have any production hangers so I used some milspec static line and an old cargo strap I had in the truckbox.

Good points. Hopefully a M&P can fill the vacuum.
I just found this out tonight. We went shopping and found the material in the craft section completely gone! When I inquired of the manager, she said that they were no longer carrying any material.
Spent some time growing up in St. George UT. I sometimes miss the landscape.
Welcome aboard!
Howdy from the Ozarks! :)
I tried doing it but it wouldn't. Anyway I can call upon the magical mod oracle to change the thread title to....
DIY free and budget hammocks and other gear on the super cheap
;) Thanks in...
I was homeless because of injuries had in Iraq, and other civilian adjustment difficulties (see pic - lol!).
True story - I had decided for my first night in Seattle to stay at the homeless...
LOL!!!! Right on!!
Great ideas. As for the sewing I was skeptical about the strength if it was hand sewn. I had a small tent when I was homeless and am now kicking myself for not considering a hammock. The only ones...
I was thinking of the blue tarps because with the thick hem, it wouldn't require a sewing machine. This gear needs to be made without specialized equipment.
Just for fun I thought we could share ideas for hammocking with next to nothing. As you probably read from my intro, I was a homeless vet for a little over two years, and if anyone here has been...
I was wondering what kind of thread was the best especially for doing your own straps on a consumer machine. I would think that it would be some kind of high strength nylon, but can that work on a...
Interesting. Another way would be a lodgepole internal frame in a canvas wall tent.
The only way I think it could be pulled off is....
1- at least 1 foot square steel plates under the poles to avoid sinking.
2- MUCH beefier poles.
3- MUCH beefier rope.
4- Auger style dog...
It's a lot of gear to haul (hence the trailer), but for long term stays, I would take it over an RV any day. It's about a two hour setup, and three hour breakdown.
Mine was Ft. Sill, Benning, Gordon, and Bragg, with a couple of years at Camp Williams with the 19th.
Can't wait to rig a SW dipole atop the hammock, lay there and surf the world!
The tent (12x20 Alaknak) and kitchen was from Cabelas, and the bed and crib was from IKEA. Maybe a little nuts to some, striking out in the dead of winter, but it was better than the home we were...
Not hammock related (yet), but gives a good idea of our family adventure. My wife Beth started this blog while we were wintering in our wall tent with two kids, and trying to save up for land.

We have a GP too. Great dogs!
I'm new to hammocking as well. Just bought a ENO-DN from Amazon, so I'll be taking the plunge soon.
The rock hard ground. :crying
Been meaning to join for a couple of days. Nothing special, I'm retired Army (31V1P ABN Signal Corps) living on my 30 acre goat farm with the wife and kids (2 toddler boys).
I have always been the...
