I made am underquilt very similar to yours about 4-5 years ago. I sewed small loops on the edge of my quilt that lined up with the asym tie outs on my hammock. I either run the tie out through the...
Great looking tarp! I said the same thing after my first, now here I am about 10 traps later and the ideas just keep coming. Keep it up
I have 5.0 Apex TQ and UQ. They pack to maybe 10-20%larger than my down equivalent quilts. I will say I go for synthetic more often due to the damp humid climate I in.
Welcome to the madness, cut up your credit cards now
Sorry for the delayed reply. I have noticed that when I"m wrapping the tarp up I have to "milk" the air out of it a bit or else I get the same problem you described. I start near the middle grasp...
Found a bag, mods please close
I'll have to check those out and I'm glad to hear you like the hammock.
I hear great things about these bags but it's a little bigger than I'm looking for. Thanks for the offer though.
I"ve never wrapped it up under those conditions, but I have setup in some strong winds and the two ties were all I needed, but that was with a Tadpole so not a whole lot of tarp to control anyways. ...
What's the pack size and weight of this bag?
Well that's cool, I'm kinda suprised how much attention this post had gotten. I'm glad you found it helpful and I appreciate the mention in another thread. Happy hanging.
Great looking setup! It is so satisfying to make and use your own gear.
I'm deploying overseas soon and need a smaller (lighter) sleeping bag than my issued bag. I've got lots of diy gear and hard use camping gear for trade. Let me know what you've got. Thanks
SOLD......
fixed it, PM sent
Price drop! $50, also please no PM's,let's keep all conversation in this thread
It's 60 inches wide.
PRICE DROP: $50
Hey guys, this is a DIY hammock that I made for a family member, but they changed their mind on what they want,, so my hard work is your gain. This hammock is made from 1.4oz? grey...
Looks great!
PM sent with ?'s
I didn't put in any cat cuts so it pitches tight on the edges and a little loose in the middle. It did seem to stretch a little bit during the rain but straightened up after it died out
The NiteIze Spotlit LED carabiner is the light that I have on all of hammock ridgelines. It's small, cheap and really lights up the space well. Usually pick one up for around $5.

The tarp was the easiest part. I didn't cut anything off of it. It is a 3 yard remnant from dutches site that I just hemmed and put tie outs on. Ended up measuring 108x56, not the most ideal size...
Got out this morning for some "breakfast from the hammock". I know, it's not as good as waking up in the hammock, but i'll take what I can get. Anyways, I shot a quick 2nd look video. Thanks for...
ok my stand measures 14' & 3" between connection points and they are 53" high
Yep you are correct, 6 inches off center in either direction with a 10 degree bend. I"ll have to go measure the height and distance but it works with gathered end and bridge hammocks....
GREAT looking tarp! does that have doors on both ends?
Well thanks for the compliments, and yeah you would think my cords would be a mess when I unroll the tarp but (knock on wood) they just fall right back out each and every time. The big thing I...
I have one of those stands and had the uprights bent a little to shorten the distance between them, but ultimately raise my connection points. Works like a dream. Any muffler shop or someone with a...

I agree with everyone else. I use a 65 year old straight stitch machine and once I got the stitch length and tension set for use with our fabrics I haven't changed it. Forward & reverse are a must...
Thanks!
I agree, not the biggest fan of the asym shape but a tarp I can carry in my back pocket that provides real protection surely can't be overlooked.
Yeah so far I like it. I hung under it this afternoon and it's still hanging outside. It's been raining on and off all day, so far it doesn't look like it has sagged at all. So far i'm really...
I'd love to be a tester if you need another person.
This is a quick video of an ultralight setup I just put together. The other day while surfing Dutchs website I noticed he has fabric remnants on sale. I picked out a couple pieces just large enough...
Good tip, that is one of the reasons I don't use snake skins but I like your method. Thanks for sharing.
Discounted fabric remnents. Many are just right for hammock or quilt size projects.
purely for size and weight, I'd look at a cuben asym diamond tarp. Zpacks and HammockGear are both making them. Edit: just re-read the title and noticed you said DIY. Cuben could still be an option...
SOLD!
It has a weight rating of 200lbs (but remember even the strongest fabric can fail due to damage, misuse or improper hang angle.)
The ends have a channel sewn in that is cinched with a small piece of cord. Then the whoopie are larks headed around the cinch. This way there isn't any stress on the channel
Cool system, does the UCR larks head get so tight it's hard to release on the diamond knot?
Great job! Tarps look simple but the little details make all the difference. Looks like you made all the right choices.
Yeah its definitely tough, took quite a hard pull to rip it.
they are about 5 feet, maybe a little longer. I can measure them for you tomorrow. (at work right now)
probably more like 10'3" after hemming
I am selling my 1.1oz 10'5 foot custom hammock. I made this hammock to keep in my daypack and just use to hang out when the opportunity arises. It doesn't hardly see any use and I would like to...
Are you talking about the webbing running down the sides of the hammock body or the actual suspension going to the tree?
