Yellowstone. :D
Favorite place in the world.
Yes, but real gram weenies use the MSH. ;)
:D
Whoopies. Don't know about the tarp though.
Just put the loop over your suspension, so the end comes snug down to your whipping. Here's a quick diagram I whipped up.

I don't have a facebook, but I may have to buy one. :D
The second method you show is exactly the method I was planning to use for my next hammock.
I usually don't need one. I just use the edge of the hammock
Underquilt...?
Mine's about 81 or 82% off the top of my head.
That's what I do. :)
Generally, I would say you want 30 degrees when loaded. When I hang, I usually gather the fabric and push down to simulate load. This also helps me make sure my MSHs are secure.
When I got my...

Might be awkward because I'm 14 but thanks for the offer. :D
Wow that looks amazing. I might have to copy that design when I make my stand. :)
Backyard, mostly. Had a couple of lunches at Germantown and a couple of nights at Caeser's Creek and Englewood. I live in Centerville. Where've you hung around here? :)
My first hammock fall was the other day. I made the cliche mistake of not checking my MSHs and my whoopies just slipped off. :glare:
There have been some discussion lately on how long to make the buries in the fixed eye of the whoopie. My question would be,why does that matter? If I understand the locked brummel correctly, then...
I have gone over the side once or twice. Better than getting up.
I believe someone has done this exact thing before and it worked fine.
What I want to know is exactly how they got the suspension over the water. Did they have a boat?
Very nice! :shades:
Won't you have vapor issues?
Wow. I had to sleep on the ground for two night's this summer during Boy Scout camp (the other 4 I hammocked) and the experience reminded me how much I HATE sleeping on the ground. Even with a pad, I...
If you hang how you described at first, you will NOT be flat. You will be banana-shaped. Because your hammocks end is gathered, the fabric beneath you will curve up in an arc because the distance...
:D Yes I have to remind myself of that sometimes - always helpful.
You could try the Grand Trunk Funky Forest Tarp.
Yes that is exactly what I meant.
I have the Funky Forest Tarp, and yes, the ridgeline is 14 feet. For me, it reduces the possible sites because at 15+ feet, the hammock tree straps have to be really high. :(
However, that is the...
7/64 should be good, as everyone else has said. Again, it's been said, but you should try Dynaglide. It's a lot lighter!
I use scissors. Works fairly well.
Wow. I have the Funky Forest Tarp and that's cheap. :o
As a note to those who are buying - Be careful of the loops under the ridgeline - water collects on them and drips.
Other than that,...
Awesome. :)
Very cool. Cheap alternative to the Nano7. :)
:( Sounds rough. At least you had pads and not an UQ.
I have used a pad and with the proper sag, you should be fine. The pad sometimes slips off the hammock, but that is the only problem I've had.
Anything that is not hollow should be fine as long as it can resist some small amount of pressure to break in half. Although I have not used them, wooden dowels should work very well, even very thin...
With one, it is super easy to get a consistent hang. :)
When you have trees that are farther aport, then you have to attatch your slings very high on the tree, often higher than the average person tern reach. Alternatively, you could decrease your hang...
The 30° angle does not apply minimum weight. However, it applies the least weight while still being practical. So your trees don't have to be so far apart. Also, it is a Very comfortable hang angle.
Don't see what's wrong with Whoopies. Very fast and easy to set up. Then you don't have to change suspensions when you do want to save weight. Plus you get the "coolness" factor. :)
Hi, I am also fairly new to hammocks. I have a GT Nano 7 so it's almost the same thing. I use Dynaglide Whoopie slings double larksheaded directly through the hammock end channel. Then those are...
Quick question - I'm planning on making mime out of wooden dowel rods (thick). If I cut the rigdepole in half, how can I join it to hang?
Does this method of making a tie out weaken the material being used?
1. Use a dripline.
2. I think you need to use a marlin spike hitch.
What if you were to tie the SS to the strap? Then you could attatch it at any point. I was thinking of using a double sheet bend. Do you think that would work?
I double-larksheaded my GT nano like shotgunred. I used dynaglide and I haven't seen any problems yet.
Go to Just Jeff's website and check it out. It really helped me when I was a noob.

For suspension for a noob, I would recommend a ring buckle system....
