I used my hammock in the Jedidiah Smith park before, so that should be ok. The Shasta wilderness isn't far and beautiful areas to explore.
My 20D silpoly Superfly has handled high winds, slapping branches and snow weight without any issues.
Great meeting you guys!
I'm an ER nurse so I have a lot of experience putting pee in a bottle and making sure the lid is tight. ;)
I use a 14oz Nalgene bottle. Holds a fair amount of urine and has a wide mouth. A plus is that when it is too cold to get out to pee, I have a nice warm bottle in the hammock when I am done.
The Tillamook Forest area has some really good trails and that area doesn't get the snow fall that east of Portland does. Lots of great trees and places to hang in there.
Ok, I am going to shoot for around lunchtime!
How early are people planning to get there Friday? I have off that week and should be up there earlier Friday.
I should have my schedule in a week or 2. As long as I am off I will be there!
I use a top quilt year round, just a lower temp rating quilt. It doesn't get "too cold" for a top quilt unless you are below the temp rating.
I have used my Chameleon top cover under my Superfly. In was windy and rainy and it made a difference temperature wise. I didn't have any condensation issues.
I use the figure 8 for larger cordage and tie out. For fine line I use plastic bobbins for sewing machines.
I would love to do a winter hang!
I am off the next 5 days and was thinking of hanging up by Clara Lake, right next to Mission Ridge. About 10 miles outside Wenatchee. I snowed here the other day but most has melted off already. I...
I was with my 20 degree HG set in the low 30's last week around My Rainier so it was nice and damp as well. I was nice and warm despite not being able to get my UQ exactly situated correctly. I am...
Get some George!
I use a compression sack and prefer it that was. I can get my 20 degree set in the sack and still make it fit in the bottom "sleeping bag" section of my backpack. I just find it easier and I like it...
On cold nights I have the 250 weight long wool underwear from Smartwool. That and wool socks/hat is usually enough for me. I tend to wear an underarmor layer only during the day when I am moving...
I have been using the 20D silpoly for about 3 months now and love it. Has handle some pretty rough wind with some branches slapping it without any ill effects.
I hiked the Routeburn trail this past December, but I used the cabin system. There are good trees for hanging though. If you have a car there are services that will shuttle the vehicle but it is...
I have used mine on my Blackbird year round. It isn't worth the hassle of removing something that has insignificant weight and I like the idea that the occasional winter bug is going to find the only...
I was leery but went with the 20D anyway. I probably have close to 20 nights on it since the summer and have had zero issues. It stood up to some serious wind and branches slapping it without a...
In addition to Oregon Hikers, the WTA is a great source for trails. The Mt St Helen's area has great camping. The Columbia Gorge had some great hikes but with the recent fire a lot of that is messed...
Not many places to hang right around Wenatchee as it is mostly bare hills. However, less than 20 miles west there are countless places to hike in the Cascades. Tons of stuff around Leavenworth and...
I have 5.
40* JrB
30* JrB
20* set by HG
10* JrB
I work 3 days a week, so I am usually camping almost weekly. My schedule rotates so I usually get time off during the week as well as some weekends.
I get my next 6 week schedule soon so will throw...
I am thinking of doing the 3 Sisters loop the week of September 17th and probably summit South Sister.
I am probably getting there the evening of the 6th since I am driving in from 9 hours away. Looking forward to meeting people and catching fish!
I travel with work and am anywhere from southern Louisiana to Alaska so I never no what weather I am dealing with.
Right now I have a 5*, 20*, 30* and a 40*. Only my 20* is a dedicated UQ.
I am...
We have 5 or 6 people on here, we should throw some dates out and see what we can come up with.
I am almost exactly your size and I love my WB Blackbird. I went with the 1.1 double layer just for the extra support and the option to use a pad if I wanted.
It should, your UQ is the more important of the 2. You can always wear some long underwear or use a sleeping bag liner with the TQ and you should be golden.
Double check, I know there was a section of the Timberline that was washed out. 3 Sisters is an amazing area to explore. While it isn't a loop trail, Jefferson Park is a gorgeous area to explore.
You can use a cap full of 'Skin So Soft' in a gallon of water and before your trip coat the pooch. It helps with fleas and bugs in general and is good for the skin/coat. We did it at the vet all the...
Tons of stuff in the area, although personally I would avoid Bend until after the eclipse. I am in Wentachee and there is so much to do in the Cascades. I will be doing a bunch of hangs in the...
I agree that it is more practical. They probably recommend the backside for aesthetic reasons, to hide the shinny smear lines.
I am interested in the Incubator 20 if it is still available.
JRB offers the option for extra down in their quilts as well.
I have 3 JRB quilts and really like them. I used the old rag and every once in a while if I move around at night it may slip a little bit, but this was easily fixed with a bit of shock cord and 2...
