I believe the area you are talking about is called 17 palms
no, there are not, but you will not need a bear box
I will be on the mountain, so I will try and come by, but I will not be staying. I am camping on the other side with another group
If you are in the Holcomb Campground you can have fires in the provided fire pits, if you are in the near by dispersed camping then there are no fires, or charcoal, but you can get a free fire permit...
I camp there all the time, Take Van Dusen Canyon Road and it will almost dead end into the campground, and I have gotten a smart car there with no problems.
As far as the hang, I have been away...
do you happen to have a link, I checked ebay, but came up empty
Still not sure if I will make the Hang, but we were in the area saturday, went in Van Dusen, and over to 3n02 and down around Burnt Flats, did not see anything out of place
I will be up there this weekend doing some offroading (gold mountain trail) I will keep an eye open for anything odd.
Cris
Hey, this sounds great, I am very familiar with the area, I am up there at least 1 weekend a month, but usually 2 or 3. With my work schedule, I wont know if I am working until a day or two before,...
Just camped FRI and Sat night in Holcomb Valley, absolutely beautiful weather.
Cris
I just camped in Holcomb valley on Sat night, absolutely beautiful up there right now. probably be up that way again the next 2 weekends
Well, as we get closer it is looking like I may end up having to work, but still trying to make it. Has a location been selected?

Sounds like an awesome offer, but I will just wait for the next care package from the Family.

not cool mentioning coffee crisp with out sending some to us poor suckers in California where you cant get it. :)
how low it will take you is all relative. are you a cold sleeper? warm Sleeper? what do you sleep in? Humidity levels, wind, it all makes a difference. I would suggest trying it out either at...
your bug set sounds like an easy solution. Another idea would be the way that ENO makes theirs. It is a "tube" with a draw string on each end. You could still use the ridge line to hold it up. ...
I just bought some fabric from Backwoods Day Dreamer, with shipping I was under 30 bucks. It was my first DIY project, took me about 2 hours, and if i can make it, any one can

Good info, but after the experience I had last week, I will not be back to a Joanns. I sent an email to their corporate office but have not gotten a response. Backwoods got my business, and they...
if I had known I would have waited a week on my order. by the way, it came in Sat while I was gone, and I made the Hammock yesterday, hung in it today. Thanks I was going to order IX elsewhere...

I am 5'9.5 and about 230, just got a 1.7dbl (came in Friday) and it is very comfy

Just got back from hanging in the park. Got some funny looks, but man was it comfy. With all the information I have read here I was surprised to see a few loose threads, but that is not a big deal....
took it out for about an hour at the park, got some fully looks from the kids in the neighborhood, but man was it comfy.

I had an eno and did not care for the bug netting at all, so I returned it and ordered the Blackbird. It just came in today, but from the testing I can tell it was the right choice. From the USPS...
Gonna try and get to the park for a test tonight before it gets too dark, and if I can get the wife to throw me out for the weekend i will head up to Big Bear for an over night test

Tracking says my WBBB 1.7dbl is on the truck for delivery, so I should have a nice package on the door step when I get home
C.
the REI by me has them. Not sure if they still have it but they also had a computer that would allow you to select an area and print a national geo topo map.
C.
Package tracking says it should be delivered today, and now the work day seems to have come to a crawl
I know the feeling, my blackbird shipped today
Got my Tracking number last night, should only be a couple days now, but it seems so far away

i just placed my first order with him after a bad experience at Joann's over the weekend. I will never be back there again
Once you figure it out it is really very simple, I have no made a pair of Whoopie slings, and small continuous loops for the toggles. Opies instructions are awesome. I used them for both the slings...
Thanks again guys, the photos in the link worked perfect. Not sure why I was having so much trouble with it last night. I just did a test piece, and now have the fixed end on my first set of...
ok, I just looked at the link http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13328&highlight=brummel It looks incredibly simple now. I will try it as soon as I get home and see how it goes. ...
Well, the Hammock did not go so well. I was sewing the long side, and when I got to the end, I noticed that there were 6 slits about 2" long in the material. Looks like something hit it when it was...
I thought about buying one to copy, but I don't think I will be able to see what I need. I understand the adjustable side of the sling, Locked Brummell Splice for the fixed end that I am having...
Ok, I have completely confused my self with the fixed eye loop. I have been reading through the instructions, looking at photos, and searching through Google, and for some reason mine look nothing...
count me in
Well, I want to build an UQ for the WBBB that should ship next week, and I thought the best practice project would be a hammock. I went and bought the material today, and just a little extra just in...
I would like to get my name thrown on the list to participate
Cris
congrats, I ordered mine recently, and it should ship beginning of the week, but I still go check the mail box each day just in case
My wife and I both got a big agnes bag/pad about 2 years ago, and returned them after one weekend. I was using it on the ground, so in a hammock may be different. What I found was that even though...
luckily I am in SoCal so even in our local mountains, in the snow it is usually only down to the mid to high teens, but usually low 20s so I can go try things out right away. In fact, we are having...
I would go for it, you can always put your morning base layer in the bottom so it is warm when you put it on
