like the joints in a brick wall, as long as the irregular stitches don't line up, you'll have 2 other lines of stitching to take the load. don't panic!

Best guess; remote trigger device. awesome adventure!
stumbled late on this thread.. how did the UQ
project turn out? need to get rid of some leftover guard hairs?
Please count me in; need a GREAT excuse to get back to sewing! (and hanging..)
looking forward to seeing the results.
PS any color you have too much of is fine for me
What I want to know is when will we be seeing your Dirigible??!?!?!
Coolness!

Putting 'ATHiker' into the seach box in iTunes is what worked for me. HTH, Betsy
So, what is the total weight of this delux set-up?
And welcome! Betsy
Thanks, that is what I needed!
(Hugs) Betsy
Will there be an instructional article to read in our near future?
(hope, hope!)
Betsy
Mine arrived today- got the gray one with the 400 lb limit- no net, and multi-purpose- tarp, footprint, gear cover, etc. Is that the ATHH? I'm good with the June deadline- reports to HC4U privately,...
Balance is the key, Grasshopper! (smile)
tighten up the bobbin tension, run a test or two, then tighten up the upper tension to match- if the fabric starts to pucker or gather, it's _too_ tight;...
So, what were the final measurments? i.e. length, diameter, capacity?
inquiring minds and all that, Betsy
test it first- you might like it as it is now...
Is the "landau top foam" open cell or closed? open cell is softer, but acts just like a sponge in the presence of water- closed cell resists water incursions sooo much better.
just my .02 lira; Betsy
It was linked to "Photo bucket"- his account may have lapsed or been canceled- happens sometimes when it is inactive for a period of time.
Betsy, sure that other pics of tree huggers can be found...
Oooh, think they might go with my blue hammock and pink quilt? what's the shipping to 76012?
(smiling, but not joking- happy to give them a home!)
Betsy
now you must weigh it, so we can be envious of how light is it!
Congrats! Betsy
Tyvek scraps work well for that.
I just finished a (prototype) asym synthetic underquilt from 1$ a yard fabric- 2.6 yds and some leftover scraps of quilt batting- lots of piecing together overlapping to fill in the gaps, with...
I would break it down as: enough tension to pull the support line to an angle with the hammock, it is becoming structural; a ridgeline that has a bit of slack would be non-structural. HTH, Betsy
Quick and easy double layer hammock..

oops- forgot i hit the MYOG Discussion tab first..top of page
sorry.. Betsy
I clicked on the MYOG shelter section- (catagories column right hand side of page) it took me to the hammock/bugnet description.
You can make anything that uses "down" -it'll just be heavier for the same amount of thermal comfort. Think of it as the prototype test material, if you like the product, you can make another...
Hmm- "Jacuzzi" might make a great trail name....
My experience is that a ball point needle is generally used on knit or more open fabrics where you need to pass between the threads, with less chance of cutting through a fiber. If the ripstop is...
Blends are fine, as long as there is no cotton/linen/ramie included- thise will degrade with time and moisture. A Poly/nylon blend might be the best of both worlds, But the Guttermann's is great...
In the bobbin compartment, around the place the bobbin case clips in, is a circular metal frame, (in my machine it is held down by two spring loades levers) that holds a complicated metal shape that...
Can you try this; with the compartment door open, hold the top thread with your left hand, slowly turn the machine advance with your right hand, and watch to see if the "hook" catches the thread loop...
I have made 1 double layer hammock from the $1 fabric bin- ripstop but not coated - in sewing the two together I left only an opening centered on 1 side, about 2.5 or 3 feet long- once I had to get...
Like the "choke" chain on dog collars?
Just be sure you keep all the pin holes inside the final edges of the "hem zone" -then you will not have to seal up any holes that wandered away from the edges.
just my .02 centimes, Betsy
Can also either cut the threads making the box stitch that makes the loop hold the buckle, or just cut it right off and heat seal the end to prevent fraying, than sew your own loop with a box stitch....
Aboslutely- and as soon as you sleep in it you will know how breatheable (or not!) it is and adjust accordingly. Hammocks generally have only hems, not seams, as most of us try to avoid putting a...
Could it be related to the annual upsurge in number of people getting new/improved computers for Xmas?
just a thought.. Betsy
This will have a tarp over it, yes? else the top might become an aerial pond....
just a thought, Betsy
neat job! looks good.
Darn, missed it! maybe a bit more notice next trip?
thanks for the invite- how long is the walking trail? hope you enjoyed the weather!
Betsy
I do too, but not for sewing! Check at your local fabric dealer.. Oops, I mean shop- for a "cutting board"- should be a large foldable piece of card board with a 1inch grid printed on, (and some...
sent you a PM... Betsy
Just think of the sewing machine as another power tool- it has a cord and a motor, you use it to make things that you need, and if you are not careful- you can hurt yourself! see, power tool!
I was thinking you would need it to put the mesh bugscreen on/off; or are you using Risk's drape and flip installation? (I have one of those..)
Might need one or two really long zippers (or omnitape?)
[QUOTE=warbonnetguy;38599
just because a color reflects light, doesn't mean it reflects all wavelengths (like infared radiation) just look at the color green, it reflects all visible light except...
Re: question 5; my hand spans 8" when spread out fully- I figure if I can touch thumbs and pinkies around the tree(on the order of 16" or less= 5" diameter) it is too small to take my weight....
It looks like you need to be really slender to fit inside of them- the OD on the chest is listed as 18.4 (S/M)or 20.8(L/XL) inches- if your chest is more than 40 inches you may be too big....
Try and find a "Body double" for the pinning part! the hang of my hammock changes a lot between the occupied and empty states....
HTH, Betsy
All true, but these are classed as "sewn-thru" quilts and not Baffled, which my understanding was that the baffle 'boxes' keep the down lofted away from the needle holes on the surfaces and less...
Then again, even 38 degrees is pretty unusual for Texas this time of year, especially when it was 80 degrees a couple of days ago!
have fun, and keep us posted!
Betsy (from equally chilly DFW)
I think it would be wide enough, but would it be long enough? the longer the hammock, the flatter the curve...
I suppose you could go more on the diagonal, to use up the width.
Then there is the...
I have to ask- is that in Degrees F or C? 'cause 80F doesn't sound too terribly hot, but 80C would not exactly seem survivable..
Curiously, Betsy
