Ordered a few yards for a summer top quilt. The fabric feels wonderful! I assume the shiny surface is the 'right' side and should be face out? Thanks!

I've made my own frankenbird, but I was looking to make something a little more refined and esthetically pleasing for my wife. I'm going to give the 8 footer a go next week. Has anyone made a 1.1...
Agreed, Scott is a stand-up guy and a pleasure to do business with. He is my first stop for DIY supplies.
Wow! Nice work. I was inspired by your other thread on the 1.1 nylon Ghost Hammock and made my own. I'll have to post a pic in that other thread. Way to keep innovating!
Thanks for putting this together!
I saw these at REI a few weeks ago. Thanks for posting about your experience with it.
I agree, the Pinnacle is a great bag for the money! I love mine so much I just bought the women's version for my wife. That thing is a puff monster! It has more loft than my bag.
Thanks for the tip Bluenose Climbers!
I think I need to get some of these SS guys and a pack of mini 'biners from Lawsons. This site just kills me!
Don't forget about top quilts and under quilts!
Nice work!
Personally, I like the way Redoleary does stuff sacks here, although doing a flat felled seam on a small stuff sack can be a challenge. I don't use a grommet for the cinch cord exit though.
Thanks for the quick response MAD777! That raises another question. Would you stitch the two layers together all the way around (except for the opening) and then attach the zipper through both layers...
I'm about to make a DL gathered end with attached bugnet for my father-in-law. He won't be using an underquilt, so I would like to leave an opening through which he can insert a pad between the two...
This might get you a rough idea, but your number will likely be higher than the true fill power. There is a formal specification for testing that involves placing the down in a cylinder and putting a...
You could over come this problem my making horizontal baffles instead of using baffles than run head to foot.
I highly recommend Ramblinrev's video series. Great info there for the beginner and excellent tips for those with experience as well!
Just got back from the post office. The amsteel is on its way. Enjoy!
Sold pending funds.
Great video to along with your explanation in the other thread. Good timing too, I need to make a stuff sack for the underquilt I just finished. Thanks for taking the time to share this!
Nice idea Joey! I'll have to give that a try.
Thanks for checking!

I have 50ft of 7/64" Amsteel Blue in the black/dark grey color. Note that the 7/64" is eight strand, not twelve like the larger diameters. I am looking to trade for an equal amount of...
I just went through this last week with a used sleeping bag. I basically followed the instructions on Western Mountaineering's website as linked to in an earlier post. I used Nikwax Down Wash, a...
Great report! Wish I had been able to make it out with you guys. I stayed home Saturday in my tent in the livingroom.......harvesting down from a donor sleeping bag and finishing up my DIY...
For my 30ft zing-it ridgeline, I use the figure eight method to hank the line and then finish off the 'working' end as water monkey does in his video. This seems to prevent tangles very well, but you...
I don't think Redoleary uses a flat felled seam on the bottom. It sounds like he only uses it on the side seam and then uses a straight seam on the bottom. I'm looking forward to his pics!
I was going to see if you wanted some company this weekend, until I realized you plan on hanging overnight at 12 degrees! Yikes! I haven't been out that cold in a tent before, let alone a hammock.
It sounds like you have made a 'hook' on the end of your guitar string. Is this correct? If so, try this instead. Fold the guitar string in half at its midpoint. You feed the bent guitar string into...
I need some down for an under quilt I am in the process of making. I have a Marmot Pinnacle that is 3-4 years old that doesn't get used and I am considering harvesting its 800fp down. It really is a...
I also have loops prussiked to my guylines and I think they tend to be responsible for any tangling that occurs if I'm not careful. To prevent tangles, I slide the prussics right up to the tarp and...
Nice underquilt! My order from diygearsupply should be arriving tomorrow and I will be starting on an underquilt as well. I still need to source some down. I'm trying not to sacrifice a Marmot...
How tall are the baffles in that quilt?
That's a great looking quilt! Nice work!
How do you find the 42" width? Too wide? Too narrow? Just right? I will soon be starting a full length UQ and have yet to decide how wide to make it. The...
This is a very cool idea, but I'm not convinced of the value in it. You still need to purchase enough down to make tubes for all three seasons and store those that are not in use. So you don't save...
Those look great Samiam!!
What type of pillow did you source the down from? Thanks!
I could never coax my dog into the hammock with me, but she loved sleeping close by. In fact, she would usually sleep right underneath me. I ended up cutting down an old Thermarest and resealing the...
I saw this video just yesterday. I can't remember the person's name, but they used gasoline as their solvent and commented on how long the smell remained. I've heard good things about people suing...
Great work! I might have to give one of these bridge hammocks a try!
I can't tell from your pics, but are there any knots in your paracord? Generally speaking, knots will significantly derate the...
I'm a little late to the game with my thoughts, but here they are...
TinCup is correct about the use of a carabiner with a 'MSH' not really being a proper MSH. However, I do use this setup with an...
I'm glad someone (G.L.P.) finally mentioned that proper storage is key to ensuring a long and lofty life for your down products. Another thing to consider is how you stash your quilt when on the...
Has anyone pushed this stand near the suggested weight limit of 350lbs? I am looking for a stand that my wife and I can use together.
Thanks!
That would definitely make installing a slider a whole lot easier, but I came across another trick for installing a slider. A can't find the link right now, so I will briefly describe the technique...
I'm still a thread injection newbie and I tend to over build for the sake of safety. Given those disclaimers, I would go with a flat felled seam which will give you excellent strength. They also look...
I have successfully shortened a Thermarest for my dog. Actually, it was a Mountain Equipment Coop brand inflatable pad, so its construction may be different than a true Thermarest.
The biggest...
Payment sent!
Thanks!
I didn't make it into the original buy, but I will take 100' of 7/64 black to help the cause!
I can't believe I missed this! I actually feel a little sick to my stomach.
Opie, if anyone backs out of their order I would be happy to fill in the gap and buy 100-200'.
Cheers!
As weedeater64 said, you really do need to play with your tension and direction of pull. Dressing the know with your fingers tips as you go is also helpful. I tied as cast that consisted of several...
You could make some soft shackles or continuous loops.
