Lodge is, by far, the #1 mfr for them.
GSI makes some, but they are AL, so it kinda defeats the purpose ;) . They weigh like 25% of the cast iron ones though!

That's a heavy hammock! My Hennessey is 1.3kg with fly, and that's the base model. But, if it gives you a great night sleep, I'd look at lightening it last.
My wife has a fancy 7 lb pack. I...
We've got enough tents, and only 1 shy on hammocks:family member ratio.
My wife's going to Isle Royale, MI for 2 weeks late this summer, and we want to make her a DL hammock for it. Without a...
Hmmm. Maybe. Lots of stuff has to break the right way though :(
But it's a deadline for the wife's DIY DL.
So, yes this is a year old, but I was searching...
This June I spent a couple nights in Wompatuck - not hiking, out here for sightseeing and some job interviews. I didn't hang, but the check...
Nah, purple is where it's at!

I weighed it out to 1.7 oz. (11.4 oz for 8640 sq in)
My very first project was some new tree straps for giant trees in the Sierras, that was the first time I've sewn since I took home ec, probably 7th grade (sometime between 89-91).
I have been...
The Amsteel Blue I have, I got at a boating shop. It's Dyneema SK-75 in a single braid. If a shop in central California, where we have very little water, carries it, I sure hope someplace in...
The purple stuff from Hancock weighs about 1.7oz/yd - I think it was 1.68. I've got 5 yards mostly into an UQ right now ;)
Their new coupon is also 40% off.
Weighed it last night, ~1.7 oz/yd.
I picked up some purple ripstop at my local hancock this weekend. With tax, 5 yards was $16. Once I start cutting into it, I'll weigh it and find out if it's really 1.9 or heavier.
The 40% off...
It's not going to help the OP, but I run, run, and run some more. Then I bike.
I run about 4 miles 5x a week at a good tempo pace. I commute by bicycle (6 miles round trip in the foothills). I...
And it seems like all 20,000 are at the base camp when you arrive!
Even though it was +/- 20 years ago, I remember how huge the base camp was. Or maybe my memory is foggy, I remember the trail...
Glacier point was so empty!
Could be worse, last November I got 18" of snow overnight in Upper Pines lol. Not too much day hiking is available mid-winter ;)
I've got these Vasque Breeze GTX boots that I don't use anymore. Got them a couple years ago, used them twice, about 10 miles total. Laces are perfect. Sometime in between buying them and using...
4th of July weekend I ended up on part of it, where it goes along with the PCT from Echo Lakes to Lake Aloha (Trip Report). There are some tree-less areas, but there are still a lot of trees....
I've only ever hung in national parks here in California. Really, the last time I even camped in a state park is the first day I stepped foot in CA when I moved here 5 years ago - before I...
You guys are evil! Convincing me to spend $100 on a bag to cut up...
Good tip! Thanks
Where I hike (Sierra), I hang everything except my shoes, those sit under my butt and stay dry. It barely rains here, and when it does, it's barely more than a drizzle, so no worry about driving...
Another big name is commercial machines in Juki.
You can't really go wrong with an old Necchi or Juki.
They are very serviceable, and built to take abuse.
But it'll help people looking for...
With me, California has tied Florida for #2 ( or 3rd if you count that way)
[bump]
Google Earth works pretty good, or at least it does on the PCT/Tahoe Rim Trail around Tahoe. If you can't find a JMT earth file, there are full PCT ones out there ;)
That weekend it was about 105 each day home 75 miles away (and 7000'+ below). On the 4th it was actually supposed to be 90 on Lake Tahoe - which is really, really hot for them. Heat is something we...
4th of July weekend, I had planned on doing a section hike of the PCT from US 50 (Echo Lakes) to I-80 (Donner Summit) along the west side of Lake Tahoe. 3 days, 65 miles, solo, should have been...
I haven't ordered from them, but they tempt me: check out kitebuilder.com . The problem is their ripstop (i.e. lightweight sail cloth) doesn't follow the other standards - its available in 0.5,...
I hate that last time I was out, I slept right through sunrise to 8 am! The sun had been up 2 hours and I was still asleep, 10.5 hours uninturrupted! The horror, loosing precious daylight...
Just two comments: one on how easy it can be, and one to why some people don't/won't.
As you know, there have been a lot of internet scams supposedly originating from either Africa (Nigeria...
Spent a short weekend in Yosemite, in the cold and rain. It was my inaugural hang.
I was outfitted with a HH Expedition, an old Campmor 30F down bag, and a blue CCF pad. It got down to ~35F and...
I agree, don't expect to be able to get far in the Sierras. For example, Squaw Valley, as of May 1st, has gotten over 700" (17.7m+) of snow this season.
One additional warning re: Yosemite. ...
Been lurking for a little bit and finally decided to make this thread.
Finally broke down and bought a Hennessy Expedition last xmas and been iching to try it out. Got two trips planned for the...
