#3 hydration bladder- I'll take it.
I'm in. I'm a sucker for camo.
Payment & PM sent.
I'll take both.
I'll take it.
Background
Shawnee State Forest is situated in the rolling hills of Southern Ohio along the Ohio River. The forest surrounds a state park, with boating, fishing, camping and picnic areas. The...
Trip report coming soon.
Picked up a double-ended stuff sack. I've ordered from AHE multiple times. The gear is always top notch and customer service unparalleled.
Definitely hitting this trail on July 5.
Just finished assembling and weighing my gear. Base weight of 12 lbs, 13.4 oz. Total weight of 19 lbs, 7.6 oz.
Still planning to be at Camp 5 on the...
Hiked the backpack trail in 2009. Cached water near the bridle camp area. When I was there, I was also able to fill up and treat water from a creek. This may be unreliable in dry weather. Backpack...
Just wanted to give this a bump. Still planning to hit this trail July 5.
I'll take the Tablecloth Hammock.
Funds sent for GSI.
I'll take the dualist.
I'm unfortunately out, due to a lower back & left hip injury. If I make a miraculous recovery I'll try to make it.
Returned from business travel and tarp was waiting for me. Immediately went to the back yard to pitch it. Cannot argue with the craftsmanship. It's exceptionally well made.
I'm in. Looking forward to it.
I'm in.
Great giveaway.
Already received order placed on 2/26. Great product, great service.
Payment sent for MSR cook pots.
I'll take the MSR Blacklite pots.
Agreed. Placed an order today and it was marked as shipped later in the afternoon. Awesome products. Awesome service.
Ordered a 4-season tarp on 1/26. Received a notice that a shipping label was generated on 2/13. Still hasn't been shipped. No tarp & no response to inquiries. Hate being that guy, but...
I'm good for March 22-24.
I vote for Wildcat Hollow, as it's been a couple of years since I've been there.
I'll continue to follow the thread.
I'll be out somewhere in Ohio the weekend before. Can't do the 29th.
Trash bag that I can also use to keep gear dry or cut to make a poncho. You could also pick up a shower curtain liner at a dollar store and cut to size. Not as light as Tyvek, but cheap & easy.
Tentative Plan A
Fri- Camp 5
Sat- Camp 2
Tentative Plan B
Fri- Camp 5
Sat- Camp 3
Sun- Camp 1
Since we're sharing horror stories, I contracted giardiasis or some other awful bug out there....
Glad that at least a portion of the trail has been widened.
I'd like to go sooner, but work schedules will not allow. I want to have the flexibility to make it a 4-day instead of a 3-day if we...
If you haven't hiked Shawnee before, please know that it's no picnic. It's been a few years since I hiked it, but from what I recall, the trail seems to have been designed by someone who hates...
I'll be hiking A-H for an overnight on the 16-17, assuming it's above 5 degrees.
Planning a counterclockwise hike of the 40-mile main trail at Shawnee State Forest in Adams Co. Heat, hills & hammock for anyone interested.
Plan to be somewhere in the dirt (or snow) on Feb 16 & 17. I'll keep an eye on the thread. I have a cold weather "comfort zone" with the hammock. If temps fall below, I may be on the ground.
Sorry I'll miss this. In GR from Ohio for business on 10/1, so I'm heading to the MRT 9/28-9/30. If anyone is out & sees a slow-moving hiker w/a DIY digital camo hammock, stop & say hello.
I was out at the River Loop Trail/Scenic River Trail east of Marietta on 7/15-7/16. Despite evidence of several blow-downs, the trail itself was clear. It's a farther drive for me, but it's becoming...
I can't make it on the 15-19 dates, but I will say that Zaleski is great. It's my "go to" trail for my first hike of the year and when I'm testing out new gear.
Camp C takes zero time to get to...
Made it down last weekend. Stormed the entire time, so the trip was kind of boring. I'll echo the accounts of fallen trees and overgrown trail. I zipped my pant legs on after the first mile or so...
Thanks for the report and pics. Hit Lake Vesuvius (the southern end of The Wayne) last summer and hitting Wildcat Hollow (the northern end) in a few days. Thanks for "breaking in" the trail.
Happy to see the Buckeye presence on the forums continue to grow. Be warned: a hammock can be habit forming. You may never sleep on the ground again.
Wildcat Hollow plans changed. Bumped to the Sat/Sun after Memorial Day.
Still up for an Ohio hang, if organized.
Right now, the game plan is the Saturday & Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I hate going out on the holidays, but that seems to work best with the wife's class schedule right now. I'm a solo hiker...
If an overnight is organized I'd try to attend.
Thanks for the tip. I already made the note on my trail map.
I'm planning to hit Wildcat Hollow sometime in late May. From the description at backpackohio, it seems to be a reasonable loop hike.
Agree with the comments on Shawnee. It defeated me two years...
I really like this design. I'm contemplating making a new hammock & new bugnet, but would like to avoid velcro & zippers altogether.
On the "triangle" portions of ripstop, would it be feasible...
Thanks. Made one last night and I like it.
Now, onto the new DIY hammock.
What kind of cord is suitable for a tarp ridgeline?
I have plenty of line from Ed Speer and some shock cord for prussics. Will this do the trick?
Any recommendations on length?
Welcome aboard, fellow Columbus hanger!
Won't be able to make this one, but will be checking back for a Manistee River Trail hang in the fall. Over the winter, the MRT-NCT loop kept calling out at me from my wish list.
I ordered some NoSeeUm on (Good) Friday afternoon and received it on Monday. You never have to worry about quality of gear or service when you order from Speer.
Nice to see Buckeyes populating the forum. I'm in Columbus, but a stone's throw from Hilliard.
This site is a great resource, especially if you start making your own gear. There's a lot of brain...
