Chap(esse)s, sorry for the poor updating skills. Here's what happened:
I got to Jackson MS and had some bad news from home - long story short, I had to wire some money to help out. That destroyed...
Zpacks were very helpful and apologetic and issued me a refund on the tarp with no quibbles. Good lads.
Now I've been able to borrow SouthernExposure's silnylon tarp while I look for a...
What a gent! Just got your PM. I'll reply now...
The blog has been updated slightly but there's still a lot of photo uploading to do. Takes ages!
Also quite sweary because I've been in a sulky mood. All to be taken with a pinch of salt as usual,...
Enjoyable stays with Bajahanger and 2ply - I really appreciated the help and the opportunity for calorie loading!
Bajahanger, I hand nothing to write you a note with but I left the reflectix pad...
Just found this thread after 2ply mentioned it. It was a pleasure to meet and stay with you both and I hope I didn't disgust you with my huge appetite!
Thanks for the help, too. It makes a huge...
They truly are. Hammock geekery, food and good company. Lucky me!
In two days i,'ll be meeting another. Less than 100 miles but I'm allowing myself a couple of gentle days becaue that's how I...
Laptop still dead and no word from Acer about getting it fixed. Plus side, I'm meeting my first hammock forummer tonight, Bajahanger, just north of Augusta. Is that in Georgia or SC?
It matters...
Hehe I'm doing OK, had a couple of days off to get some tests done on my insides but I was better by the time they came through, now I'm in Rocky Mount NC heading south away from this storm. No...
Thanks for the offer. All of that sounds good! Might not be on the route but I'll warn you in advance if I head that far SE.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for saying so. I don't think I have anything controversial to update it with from the last couple of days other than breaking 'no-camping with a cold beer' rules, so...
swankfly I wasn't planning to go that far south but that sounds a highly tempting offer. Do you mind if I think oin it for a few days?
and 2ply it's 99% certain I'll be passing through Athens....
I abandoned the old blog because Blogspot/Blogger deleted a lot of hours of uploading and typing.
Here's a new one. Read the disclaimer before taking offence, my dear Yank cousins.

Nah the Turks never have wine.
Is this the MAHHA?
If so I'd be waiting around for ten days or so rather than cycling. I've just done that in Turkey and I'm ready to punch through a wall. Shame...
It will be less cold than China would have been.
Also Christmas cheer. From what I understand of Americans, having seen a great many of them on TV, I'll be mistaken for a mysterious travelling...
Interested in skipping mountains. Plus I don't mind which states I cross unless cycling is illegal in some. The only ones I really want to go to are Alabama (to see if people really speak like...
Bajahanger, definitely going that way. Thanks for the kind offer. 99% chance I'll take you up on it!
Update for the rest, just to set your worried-sick minds at ease, I've found a place to stay...
Thanks, Black Wolf, their routes look good. Edit: but way out of my budget.
Hehe cheers FLRider.
Guys, new thread here:
I suppose that's the end of this one but I'll keep an eye on it if anyone wants to ask anything or comment.
Thanks for reading.
I've recently abandoned a trip some of you will have read about here - from the UK to S.Korea - because of visa problems. Now I'm doing NY to LA instead.
No planning whatsoever. In time I'll post...
I think I went down to about -2C or -3C (sorry can't remember fahrenheit) with the Snugpak and an old sleeping bag on top. I took the hammock sock off because at that temperature it was too warm....
Guys, thanks for the positive response. I'll try to reply one by one:
MAD777, cheers! I'll have GPS maps once I get a new laptop in NY and manage to get them onto the GPS unit, so I'm a little...
Cheers for the info. I'm actually being serious. I'll put a new thread up if I buy the plane ticket. The blog will carry on as normal whatever happens. Same site, same bad attitude.
Anyone...
Guys I'm stuck in Turkey and it's looking unlikely I'll get into Iran. I'm considering a drastic detour: Fly to NY, cycle to LA then fly to final destination.
If I wanted to use/abuse that...
I probably make S.America seem worse than it is because I complain a lot. Tierra del Fuego is definitely a no man's land, though. No trees anyway.
Must be beautiful riding in the opposite...
Forgot to say I've just been told I'm waiting around in Turkey for up to a month while my Iranian visa is processed.
It's only 6 days' riding from where I am to where I pick the visa up. So if...
A couple of photos showing how I hang the Snugpak UQ on the WBBB. Request more photos if this is confusing!
Hoops tied in outer shock cord (A); also visible is a carabiner (1st photo) that hooks...
Cheers. I'm not sure I am with the visa stuff and the 'no trees for thousands of miles' but that will at least fuel a readable rant or two on the blog!
Alex, so you know exactly what the French are like.
As for the WBBB + Snugpak I haven't tried another UB but I think the two are perfectly matched. In winter (or early spring in the UK) with the...
Thanks for the support, chaps. I doubt there will be a book this time (been done many times before and for worthy causes too) but there's a chance I'll be writing one with a friend in the next few...
I slept in a tree in Greece last night.

There's always something that breaks on the bike and it looks that way with the hammock. I've got dyneema on a dutch fly for one end of the tarp (Evenk knot the other end), and the fly looks like it...
Cheers, Esku.
DIY TQ (of sorts) now finished. See the OP. I'm a warm camper.
Check. It. Out.
I can't remember the name of the forummer I owe credit to for showing me this type of hem (with a channel), but others will, so thanks, That Guy! I did a hem like this all the way...
Thanks, well-wishers!
Today is quilting day. Two days later I'm away. Not without the quilt though, so it will take as long as it has to. Link to that thread in the OP. Updates hopefully tonight...
Yep, I split the planning into either north of the Himalayas or south. South is politically risky and would eventually put me up against the brick wall of Burma, so no choice really.
I'd love to...
Thanks, Baja.
OP updated with a kit list.
Cheers, chaps :)
I'm hoping to make it to Seoul by the spring, where luckily a private academy I used to work for has offered me more work teaching English. From that point onwards, the cycling...
Here is a thread on the cycling trip I'm doing from the UK to South Korea with a hammock.
Enjoy!
The subject line tells most of the story!
Here's a link to the blog: http://ijustfeltlikecycling.blogspot.co.uk/
I'm setting off on Monday 2nd July and you're welcome to follow the trip (and...
Right, work has begun on the TQ (last Saturday) and will be completed this coming Saturday. Or at least it had better be completed because I'm about to set off on my bike from the UK to South Korea...
Update: Mat has done me a nice deal on a DIY kit based on his own range. In theory, all I have to do is the sewing! Cheers, Mat.
I'll update further once the project begins.
Thanks for popping in, Mat. I'll look into the fabric suppliers and see if I can get some samples. Any recommendations for ultra-breathability? I carry all my stuff in waterproof panniers so the only...
That's good to know, cheers. Especially about the fabric samples. I may well send them an email.
Good luck with the rest of the project. Hope mine turns out as good!
Link to my thread in case...
Ah OK. So would you still have used it if you didn't have it lying around? Actually, if you have a link to some kind of comparison chart of fabrics, that would save me asking you all the noob...
Yeah, I'm suitably apprehensive about the DIY but I usually manage to get it right within 2 or 3 tries, if decorating and bike maintenance are anything to go by!
If you happen to know of any EU...
Nice sewing, Col, good photos as well.
I'm looking at doing my own DIY TQ so I'll keep an eye on your thread. Good to know about extremtextil but I can't find that grade of down on their site..?
...
Dear forum, please help. I want to make my own winter TQ (at least 0F rated) and, as is apparently usual, being in the UK doesn't help.
In return for your kind advice I'll shower you with photos...
Sent another PM in reply. Postage costs would be too high. Sorry but I'll have to pull out of the bidding.
Interesded in the TQ based on PM, please.
