Hi all! Been a while since I posted. I've been travelling around the country to music festivals putting up hammock domes. I'm sure some of you saw a couple of my posts from last year. This year I...
Haven't been there before, I'll have to check it out.
LaFayette, GA?
I'm kinda thinking about going to Wanee, not sure yet(I've got a lot of festivals to go to this year...)
Hey guys, I've posted over in the DIY board about my GeoDomes before, here is an album I put together: http://imgur.com/a/Tyhgv
So what I would like to do is have a weekend campout near...
Ah, good idea...I'm seeing some stuff online that will work great for this!
Hi all. So I'm wanting to make some kind of net 'loft' for one of my big GeoDomes(http://i.imgur.com/crTVGEg.jpg).
Ideally would have it be something around 12'x12' or so, that would be able to...
Yeah I can definitely make a 4-man one - It would have to be something custom ordered, so if you want one, let me know and I'll get it designed. [email protected]
You'd be looking at about...
@Scotty we can make that happen :)
@Mouseskowitz @IndyFace @cncswiss1 I can absolutely make ones with 10' hang distances - I'll have to charge $65 more for them for now until I find a source for...
8 ft. I wonder if I can find 12' conduit somewhere so I could cut it into 6' pieces and make the connection points slightly farther apart...
Yeah I'm looking into making a fitted cover for it. I really need to learn how to sew :/
Some of you have seen my other 2 Geodome posts(https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?75157-Made-a-Geodome! and...
I'm in :) prefer orange but it doesn't really matter to me that much
If I was in a place I could more easily control people climbing on it, I'd be comfortable at 26. At the fest, I never knew when 5 people were just gonna run up and jump on the thing, and it could...
@HanginTough Setup time is around 2 hours so far, probably can get it to an hour and a half once I get more practice with that size/configuration of a dome.
@lazyriverroad just found out I'll be...
Thanks guys :) It was quite a bit of work, but the materials were paid for by the festival, and I got a little bit of money as well.
@lazyriver I just sent an email to Lockn' people a couple...
Just the conduit was about $650 or so. nuts & bolts maybe $50-$70 I forget. Tarp was a little over $100. Had to buy like 4 cutting wheels, a couple drill bits, and some paint for color coding as...
Yeah we had a ton of people packed under there when it rained on Sunday - I had originally had the 30'x30' tarp folded into a triangle so there was more of a view - when I got to the dome that...
So the conduit doesn't hold weight very well in the middle of the bars, so climbing people need to stand on the corners - but its impossible to tell that to everyone. So we had some bent from people...
Thought you all would be interested in seeing my album of the dome I built for hammocking Wakarusa. It was a huge hit!
Max hammock count got up to 26, with some people hanging out on top of the...
Some pictures from the fest here! The 1-inch conduit holds up very well to climbing...

Festival went excellent! Got up to 12 hammocks in it with room for several more. Woke up to kids climbing all over the dome. Had some nuts seize up on the bolts & ended up using an angle grinder...
Tarp - not sure yet -
Taking the dome to a festival in a few hours, I've got a big 30'x30' white tarp I'll be putting over it one way or another. I'll take some pictures & update the thread on...
Or there is always the turtledog stand :)
Weight is a little under 500lbs. As a lighter alternative, you could build a 2v dome out of 3/4" conduit that would weigh < 200lbs(http://imgur.com/a/unGXn)
Figured I would drop off a link to pictures of the bugnet I made from the same stuff: http://imgur.com/a/bFhjS
I used 3 of them to make a long tube with drawstrings on the end so I could keep it...
Album of pictures here: http://imgur.com/a/4fcYN
This one is a 22ft diameter 5/9 3v w/ Kruschke-modified flat base. Stands around 13ft tall. It uses 1" EMT, 165 pieces with 4 different lengths. ...
Update for the folks curious about how well these things hold up out in the weather over time. I've had the dome sitting in my front yard for the past 3 months(uncovered). No signs of rust anywhere...
I am not an engineer, so keep that in mind. I wonder if you could figure out the different compression forces that each of them can handle. The is gonna be the figure that matters most. Using 1/2"...
My phone was broken :( My friend took some pics but I'm still waiting on him to upload them.
I was at least 6' high @ All Good Festival on Saturday night. Plenty others were going even higher. You can find a few pics on my album here: http://imgur.com/a/JwUT0
Absolutely! It tends to draw people in. Lots of questions, people coming by just to hang out, random others wanting to put up hammocks & chill.
Just got back from another festival with the dome! We were at Tomorrow World near Atlanta, been camping out of the dome from Wednesday night through Monday morning. Were 2 of us hanging in there,...
right...we're gonna be ordering a huge roll of Tyvek soon and get a cover sewn. until then, my huge tarp works out great.
if only they used the metric system here in the US
Greetings from Chattanooga! Welcome to the forum!
Multiply by 12 to get exact inches.
.3 * 12 = 3.6
.7 * 12 = 8.4
so, 5'3.6" and 4'8.4" are the exact lengths you are going for.
and you can just eyeball-guestimate the .6 and .4 of an inch...
Love my ridgeline! I keep mine around 9-9.5 feet on my ENO Doublenest. I hang all my gear from it using carabiners: backpack, guitar, water bottle, food. if its raining hard I can slide my gear...
Yes, I used the 5.3' & 4.7' for the numbers. Seemed to come out to be the perfect size - no waste at all, only 1 cut for each conduit, just large enough to hang up several hammocks. You do end up...
Nice! I've got one of those tripod grills as well. Love that thing :)
Welcome from Chattanooga, TN! So where did you go to school at in TN? I'm a Tennessee Tech graduate myself
Also interested in this. I've been thinking of making a few of these for my geodesic dome.
From what I've seen, I think most people hang them under the hammock. How far from the ground are you...
yeah it fits in there great. At interlocken fest a couple of weeks ago, I fit struts for 2 domes in my car along with all my other gear & my buddies gear. we still had plenty of room, I was even...
I finger-tighten the nuts as far as I can, and use a couple vice grips to tighten a little bit more.
will do. I'm taking it to Tomorrow World festival next weekend, will be 3 of us sleeping in it.
you could always use 1" conduit, you'd spend maybe 40-50 bucks more for all the poles and it would...
I've slept in it 12-15 nights or so. All but a couple of them was with multiple people hanging.
Came here to mention a geodesic dome, you beat me to it :)
Here is the thread on my dome: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=75157
My phone broke a couple days ago, so I can't take any pictures. I've got it loaded in the Outback right now & it doesn't take up a ton of room. 65 poles, a little less than 1 inch thick. if you...
just added one pic where my friend hung her hammock from a couple of the top hubs to make a kind of chair. its the pic at the very bottom right now
made a different imgur album where it doesn't have all the build pics, and have added 4-5 pictures to it of us hanging out in the dome @ festivals/parties. I'll be adding more pics of us hanging out...
