I regret that I will have to pull my name from the list, this year. I am having vehicular issues, which will not be resolved in time for the hang. But, I'll try to be there next year. Hope you...
Ok. I'll make it official. I have secured my time off to attend, again. Hope to have my kayak, in time for the hang. I hope Swampfox is bringing the dutch ovens.
Thanks. It was a pleasure getting to meet some more of the forum folk. I appreciate you bringing the shuttle service. That would have been a long way to swim.
It was a good weekend. Wish you could have been there.

pic dump 2 of 3.
This is just a pic dump. I'll leave the commentary to Muskrat.
Departing the NC coast, enroute to Goat Island.
Very good! I'll pick up some charcoal and some cow.
What is everyone planning on doing for dinner, tomorrow night? Will someone have the grill, or will I be relinquished to Mountain House?:scared:
If we will have the grill, does anyone need me to...
I need to arrange shuttle service to the island, before driving all the way out there. How are we looking with that?
I wish I could come to this hang.
Has anyone heard any more from Ed? The hang is a week away and he hasn't posted anything since December.
The hang is still posted on his site, but there is...
Can't wait to hear the audio on your podcast. Wonderful encounter. Glad it al had a happy ending.
Sounds good. I'll figure out an arrival time, as it gets closer. Probably early afternoon.
If I can get ferry service to the island, I may try to come up on Thursday.
I am signed up. I will require shuttle service to the island, as my rubber duckie can't haul everything.
I love Raven Rock. By far, my favorite state park, that I have been to.
I am glad you made it out safely, but I had to laugh at your assessment of the mud holes on the trail. I was up to my knees in many of the mudholes on that trail. You definitely need to return and...
If I don't show up, HB and RF will probably skin me.
I need to adjust my numbers to just Shrek. The +2 won't be able to make it, now.
Put me down for 3 spots.
I use a Coleman inflatable pad. I only let it self-inflate. I do not not add anymore air to it after that. I figure the self-inflation re-lofts the foam inside, but I find adding extra air...
This sounds very interesting. I'll keep my eyes on the developments.
Looks like he might be trying to combine the April and June hangs.
With this winding up on Mother's Day, I will have to miss this hang. Would have been better to have it on a different weekend.
I'm planning on attending.
Considering the ruckus coming from Snakeman's hammock, last week, the only critters we needed to be concerned about were amorous moose.
Got my order in for 100 of each design...They are almost gone!!!:scared:
I'm with AS on this one. Bah! Humbug!
What did you expect? After all, I AM an ogre...
I'm thinking about heading that way later in January or February...
It's hard to get time off around the holidays on short notice...
Weather forecast: 12/15-12/18
Sunny Skies
Lows in the upper 20s-upper 30s
Highs in the low 40s-low 50s
Doesn't get much better than that.:boggle:
If $$$ is a factor, you can take a second blue pad and duct tape them together. The blue pad/ emergency blanket combo may work, though. But, as stated, too warm is better than too cold.
Welcome from Wilmington, NC. We hang on the coast, too.
Slap Straps = EVIL :scared:
That would be Hogg_Tyed.
I'm flying a double 1.7 BB at 5'10" and 260.
I am going to park by the Visitor Center/ Park Office. That's where the staff recommended to park. There are trails nearby that tie in to the Bridle Trail or the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail that lead...
Seems like the family campsites close around the first of December (too lazy to check the website). That's why I always camped the canoe-in sites. It's great being the only ones out there. My...
I love Raven Rock. I've always camped at the canoe-in sites, as I usually don't go until the family sites are closed for the season. Spent a night down to 9F in my ENO SN. That is, by far, the...
As a matter of necessity, I started out going solo. Today, I will go with a group on occasion.
People would ask me if I was worried about going out alone, and wouldn't it be safer in a group. My...
I don't think that will be a problem. We will enjoy the company. Just send me a PM, later, so I can add your vehicle to the reservation.
Definitely good to have you back.
Access is by the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail, or by the Bridle Trail, according to the park office.
Let me know if you want to share our spot or get your own. I'm kinda hoping for a little snow by...
Just let us know. Like I said, it's nothing special, just our late fall hang. We just chose to go a little farther west this time. I was just thinking it might be nice to invite a few folks to...
Nothing official, but I'm planning a little hang and hike at Morrow Mountain State Park. Arrival is on 12/15, departure 12/18. Snakeman and I will be hanging out in the primitive campsite area. If...
Amen on that.
Usually I go out solo, or with Snakeman. If alone, there is no issue. With Snakeman, I'm usually up and around at least an hour before him, so again, no problem. If there were...
I have used a wool blanket down to single digit temps. It is very warm, but quite heavy. If you are car camping, no problem, but if you are backpacking, you need to consider the weight. I actually...
Ed Speer (NotToWorry) tells the tale of rigging a pulley system to take him up about 40' in some trees, to stay out of the reach of some rather large brown bears.
Well, I'm big, ugly, and sometimes green....That about covers it.
Welcome. To get the answers to your questions, just ask or read. There is a PhD of hammock knowledge in this forum.
As for rain and snow, IMO, this is where the hammock/tarp system truly...
Another Wilmington hanger I haven't met.
