I got my Poncho today. Color me impressed. It's a really nice piece of gear and I think it will do an excellent job as a weather shield with a couple of mods.

Strangely enough, I also got another email, about an hour ago, from someone at the company where I bought the poncho who apologized for the delay in shipping and said they had sent me another poncho via Priority Mail. They were apologizing to me because my first poncho (shipped First Class mail, not Priority) had not shipped. Funny thing was that the poncho I received today came First Class mail. It would seem that I may have an extra poncho on the way That means I will have a bottom AND a top weather shield.

    in use

thanks to this thread and the pointer to the site where these are sold cheaply with no shipping cost, I bought one and it came the very day I left on my way to MAHHA.

Friday p.m. I wore it during a light rain, kept me dry and gave me lots of air.

Saturday p.m. we had a few hours of steady rain blow in. Most of us were pitched to protect against wind and weather from the west, so naturally when the weather came it was from the north. I brought a MacCat Deluxe to keep bulk down (my objective---achieved---was to get all my gear down enough so that I could bring it as carry-on luggage on my flights). That means the ends of my bridge hammock are just covered if the rain comes from the tarp side, and is some vulnerable if wind-blown rain comes from the open end. As it was doing.

So the poncho got pressed into service as a tarp end cover, see attached. I tied one corner to the corner of the tarp, opened the poncho over the end of the tarp, snapped up one edge, and tied another corner off. Enjoyed staying dry listening to the rain.

Grizz - that's a great idea. I'm going to have to try one of those ponchos - one thing I never liked about the silnyl poncho is that it keeps the rain out, but also the sweat in.

Pretty sweet Grizz. It's good to know it can be used like that.

It seems the gearlessmachine website is out of stock on these ponchos. Can anyone else recommend another reputable vendor? Free shipping would be a plus, too.

Wow, that's an interesting development. Will the mod kit be available separately?
