Another DIY tip: EDad men tell no tales, but make great tent pegs.

This is a trick I learned from watching Sintax77 on YouTube. Let's say you are about to go for a Winter hang in one of those places that the strange white stuff falls from the sky, or down here, you are setting up on the beach. You either don't want to or can't find stakes that will hold in the snow or dry beach sand. What do you do? Enter the Dead Man Stake.

No, you are not seeing things, that is a plastic grocery bag. This is how the Dead Man works.

1: Dig a hole in the snow/sand. You are going to bury your dead men after all.

2: Use the snow/sand to fill the plastic bag. The weight will help secure your guy lines (this also works for tents.)

3: Attach your guy lines to the handles of the bag. These things are strong enough to support a full gallon of milk, but if you want double up the bags to increase the strength.

4: put the full bag in the hole and bury it.

And that's it, no stakes to worry about losing, your line is very secure, and I believe the plastic bags are even lighter than a titanium shepherd's crook stake.

Woa... real UL solution! No bent stakes, replacable, affordable, and plastic bags can be used for soooo many things in the woods. Awesome idea!

Well of course dig them out. How do you plan to use them at the next site if you leave them behind?
