    Hello from South Texas!

    or Howdy rather?

I am new to hammocking and to anything rougher than car camping, although backcountry trekking has always been a desire.
I picked up a couple Hennessy hammocks for me and the wife and after a fun but rough learning experience, am coming to the forums realizing I still have a lot to learn.

    Why I got into hammocking?
I am a full-time preacher / minister and discovered that hammocking seems to fit a minister's life very well. Hangs are flexible in scheduling, and are more affordable than traditional vacations. I like that I can now plan youth trips, men's retreats, marriage enrichment retreats, etc, all at the cost of some picnic goodies and a state park fee.
I am able to use my hammock for some much needed study/quiet time.
Mainly though, there is no pettiness, drama, or excuses made in the woods. Just us, in that moment, fully committed to the present. It's a lifestyle to glean from.

I am looking forward to being involved in group hangs, soaking up knowledge and ideas from the forums, and getting to know you veteran hangers.

    Thank you in advance!

Welcome aboard! You named all the great parts of camping I like but you left out the parts that can torture your soul:
    1. Dealing with addiction
    2. Jeoulousy/covetness(have you seen those argon hammocks?)
These are just the start. Enjoy the new hobbie but don't let it turn your soul!!!!
My biggest fear is that when I'm dead, my wife will sell all of my hammock gear for what I said I paid for it!

Hi x Preacher x. My daughter and her new husband just moved from Georgia to Texas, albeit the eastern part of the state. From her emails and pics, it looks like nice 60 degree weather out there lately. Beats the mid-80s we're still seeing here.

If you haven't already done so, check out the Hennessey forums. I've got an HH Eped and have learned a heck of a lot through a combination of reading and experimentation based on the reading.

Welcome to the forums from SC. There is a somewhat steep learning curve for hammock camping, but it is worth it!
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
