    Shock cord/guyline thingy?

    Guys,
Ive heard its a good idea to attach a short piece of shock cord to a slightly bunched up piece of each guyline.
I don't know what this is called, but for those of you who do this, I think you know what Im referring to.
I guess its for the stretch of the sil nylon tarp.

Could someone plz explain what the benefit is a little better? And what kind of knot you are using to attach? Also approximate length of each piece of cord?

    Thnx much

I poke a 6" length of shock cord through my Lash-it guy lines and tie an overhand knot. Then I stretch the shock cord tight, see where it ends up on the Lash-it and again poke it through and tie another overhand knot. Works great to keep my Superfly tight as it stretches overnight.

They are called self tensioning guylines. They help compensate for the stretch in silnylon when first set up and when it gets wet.

What a great idea! I have always had to tie opposing knots in both the cords but this is going to be my "go to" move for making tie outs from now on.

The minor bit of tarp sag in rainy weather is such a non-issue in practical terms that can be so easily dealt with by snugging up your tautline hitches (if you absolutely insist), that there's no way I'd want to encumber my setups with bungies or tubing. IMO, I think hammocker's sometimes tend to over-analyze things and develop solutions to problems that really don't exist in actual capacity.

I made a set of these to put on my Superfly but had to get moving on a trip before I got a chance to use them. I ended up with just a quick and dirty set of lash-it guylines recycled from another tarp.

I had no discernible stretch or loosening of my tarp over 3 days with intermittent rain, so I never put the tensioning guylines on. I've not had a need for them in over a year. I wonder if I just don't pitch as tight as others or if I have the only Superfly that doesn't stretch ?
