Talking Official Invite for a Mid-West Hang

Ok...so there has been some interest in putting together a meet and greet hang for all us hangers in the mid-west (everyone is invited).

When: The weekends of Oct 9-11 or 23-25 Please vote in the poll...thanks!

Where: Lake of the Ozarks State Park in Kaiser Missouri

    Things to think about:
The peak of the autumn foliage in Missouri is usually around the 2nd week of October. With all the rain and cool weather it could/should be a spectacular display.
I will supply Hot Dogs and Chili enough for 5-10 people. Any more than that and it becomes pot-luck where I encourage everyone to bring their best dish (feel free to bring a dish anyway).
This will be a total car camping event so pack for comfort.
For first come first serve campsites they only allow 2 vehicles + 2 tents.
To reserve a group campsite they require a minimum of 20 people.
I have never had a problem hanging in a Missouri State Park as long as your respectful and comply to a park rangers request without question but I'm also not sure how they react to multiple hammocks at one site. If there is enough interest maybe someone could help me out and call them to see if it's going to be an issue.
This is a very diverse park with lots of things to do plus you got the lake right there too. Most of the amenities are still available at the park until Oct. 31 when they go into winter mode.
IF YOU ARE COMING FROM OUTSIDE THE STATE DO NOT BRING FIREWOOD...YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY WOOD AT THE CHECK IN DUE TO THE EMERALD ASH BORER BEETLE ADVISORY. Any wood brought in should come from the area and all be burned so as not to spread this tree killer.

So there you have it there you are.
If it looks like there is not enough interest for a decent sized group then those who still want to meet up maybe we can come up with a plan to do something else like a float trip. I'll be going somewhere one way or the other .

Thanks for organizing this, lar-i. I won't be able to come, but people who take the initiative to put these together really go a long way towards building the community that HF has become. I appreciate your efforts!

I voted for Oct 9-11 as this would be slightly preferable for me. But I could also probably make October 23-25.

I also voted for Oct 9-11. There is a hike planned to hike around Lake Monroe in Southern Indiana that weekend, a 22 mile one way trip. Your hang sounds like a good one, too. Hope I can come. Mule
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

I should be able to attend one if not both nights for the weekend of the 9th. If it is on the other weekend I have a trip to the Mark Twain forest that weekend.

    Thanks

Tempting to put on the schedule but the 12 hour drive from Central Texas for a weekend of car camping is a bit more than I can handle but I echo Just Jeff's thanks and encouragement to folks setting up group hangs.

Slooooowly but surely a few responses are coming in but I know we can do better. Check them calendars and see if even you can squeeze in 1 day. I'm considering taking a day off from work and go down Thursday or early Friday.

Sounds like a good time! Unfortunately, that weekend is the Fall hang at SHT.
Probably a great option for those who can't drive all the way to northern Minn. though!

I'd be up for this trip if it is the Oct 23-25 weekend. I am scheduled to teach a seminar the Oct 9-11 weekend.

But I do have a comment... I believe that attaching anything to trees is prohibited in Missouri State Parks... It would be a real bummer if everyone showed up for a hang & the park rangers made everyone set up on the ground.

An option might be to reserve a "group site" which groups like the scouts or church groups use... I believe that the rules of where & how to set up are alittle more relaxed in those areas of the state parks...
