    First non-backyard hang

My son (8 years old) and I had our first non-backyard hang this weekend at Outing for Scouting. We arrived Friday night to 20 mph winds and rain and proceeded to setup our hammocks. The winds continued through the entire night, and while I was warm and toasty in my hammock, the constant barrage of wind and rain kept waking me up all night. The next night was wonderful though. The wind died down, the clouds cleared out and we had a calm clear night to sit under the stars before it got too cold and we needed to retreat into the warmth of our sleeping bags. Was very happy and managed to stay warm and comfortable down to 32 with just a 3/8" CCF pad and 0 degree mummy bag.

Very nice setup you and your son have. After your first outing hammock camping you'll never want to go back to a tent.
    Is it hang time yet?

Hanging next to bodies of water often involves wind. The view might be great, but there are drawbacks.

If you can survive that windy/cold spot, I'd say you are doing pretty good.

    Good job getting out there.

When I first saw the title of the post, I was expecting something about sleeping indoors. That is a nice spot. How did your son like the experience?

That great that the he had a positive experience. Need to use that as an excuse to get into the woods and hang.

You all can have the woods, along with the animals and bugs, to yourself. I'll always prefer "elevating my perspective" inside the comfort of a home.
