I have done all of the Pinhoti in Alabama and Georgia except the road walks and Flagg Mountain.

    Lots of info here: http://www.pinhotitrailalliance.org/sitemap.html

I could possibly help you out with shuttles or resupply, I'm in Gadsden-not too far away from most of the trail.

Thanks SB! Im not ready yet....working up to it, getting info, getting wife's permission. Did you do it thru or section? How was water availability? What time of year did you go? I'm looking at March 28 departure.

    That's really cool man.

    To the OP,
I've never done the entire Pinhoti but I have done several sections coming out of Cheaha. Beautiful area. I can say that I usually take a camping trip to Cheaha at the same time you're planning on going and the water levels are always great! Water availability will be plentiful in some areas, and MIA in others. But you shouldn't go a full day without water no matter what. Someone else can chime in on that. So keep it fresh as much as you can. Good luck and I hope you get to do it soon! I'm going backpacking and doing a 35 mile loop through the Sipsey Wilderness area starting November 1st, but I'll start my own thread for that.

I did it in sections. I hike from early fall through late spring. This is our driest time of year, but you will still find at least one water source on all sections. The driest sections are 3 and 4, Rebecca Mountain and Horn Mountain. The trail runs mainly along the ridges, of these sections so it is pretty dry. Read the trail descriptions on the link I gave you...there's a lot of detail in there. Spring is usually wet, so you should be fine in March/April : that's a great time to be on the trail.

I am planning a short hike Nov. 5-8. We are just doing Section 7 which is less than 17 miles, but I will be traveling with younger Explorers and this will be there very first long time out hike, not to mention first official Hang for many of them, and didn't want to chance fatigue and so forth with them yet.

As far as maps, as SB said that website has a lot of info. But you can also purchase the forestry map for $10 which has the complete AL Pinhoti and a lot of info.

Good luck on your thru hike! (the Pinhoti is a wonderful trail! ---especially if you enjoy solitude!) Also, there is a FB page for the pinhoti trail---lots of good info and great folks that would love to answer your questions!

FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
