Man, I have tried every way to convince the wife to change our bedroom into a virtual beach. Wall murals all around with the sounds of the ocean on CD! Think about it. The comfort, and your hangin' in a controlled environment. Perfect!
I'll show her this thread and she'll hopefully see I'm not the only one!

Okay, I finally got some photos together to show what I'm doing. (Actually, I just got around to spackling the exploratory drill holes in the ceiling!) My friend came over so that I could get a shot of my wife and me side by side.

As you can see, the padeyes spread the load over a larger surface area, while chewing up less wood due to the smaller screw diameter. IMHO the padeyes also look alot nicer than screweyes.

In an interesting side note, I placed the padeyes 16" apart from each other, corresponding to the joists, which are on 16" centers. This was an EWAG of mine for the comfortable distance apart from each other. This turned out to be quite correct, and we can snuggle without crowding each others' space. The funny part is that my friend taking the pictures, who volunteers on a tall ship, tells me that British Navy regulations during the age of sail called for a 16" spacing in between hammock centers!

"... British Navy regulations during the age of sail called for a 16" spacing in between hammock centers!"

Now, that's an arcane little tidbit!

Looks great! Is that an 8' ceiling? What is the spacing on the padeyes, end to end?

The ceiling is 8 1/2 ft. high. Spacing is 22' end to end.

The padeyes are definitely more proper. Cool.

I'm curious: what made you two decide to have 2 hammocks? Have you tried sharing a super-king-sized Mayan?

We've attempted to share a hammock bliss double- no good. The act of hanging two hammocks side by side also spreads the load out over two joists without having to structurally tie them together with, say, a 2 x 4 plate screwed to the ceiling. One of these days, I do want to try one of the Nicaraguan hammocks, though.

Thanks Pedro for a great idea --- going to put at least 1 set and maybe 2 in the LR and 2 sets in a bedroom-TV room. We have friends and grandkids who now like to sleep in hammocks.

Gotta find some trees to confirm distance between padeyes for our 8 1/2' ceiling ... we can go out over 30 ft if necessary but suspect 24 or so will do it...based on your comments and experience a long time ago at approx 20' between anchors.

A question for you or others. The bedroom set will go on vertical walls ... probably into headers over a window and closet but maybe not. Do you think when installed on a wall into a stud or header that force applied to the lower part of the padeye will crush into the sheetrock-drywall??
