    A Poncho Liner UQ question

So...I have a current GI version Liner (with the ties).
Folded in half lengthwise, it is 7' x 33"

I was thinking about Sewing it down the long side making a tube.
Putting Cinch closures on each end.
Then running Shock cord down each side (probably unsecured, just being held in by the fold on one side and the sewn side on the other).
Attach the Shock cord to my suspension and then adjusting the Cinches to the hammock ends.

    Does this sound reasonable?

I just slept in the Hammock with a 25x77 Thermarest pad inside so the 7'X33" UQ sounds workable but I have no experience with UQs.
I would just use a sleeping bag TQ...feet in the footbox, Bag open and on top stuffed around shoulders.

I know this won't be a COLD weather UQ, but any theories on how a double-thick Liner would do temp wise?

    Thanks

    Ah...

I just found the info on the "PLUQ".
Didn't know what to search for.
Had a feeling I wasn't the first person to think of this

I have made a few different styles of PLUQ's. Your approach should make a very usable UQ. Because of the weight of the Poncho Liner ( +/- 2 lbs) it can sometimes be a little hard to get it pulled up snugly to the hammock. Your use of shock cord should do the trick. For me, a single layer PLUQ is very comfortable to around 60 degrees, a double layer is good into the 40's.

    I just weighed mine.
It was 22.4 oz with no added shock cord and the original ties are still on it.
I'll be sure to use string enough shock cord.
    Combing through the PLUQ threads.

In thinking about this a little more you might find the 33" width a little narrow. If you sleep on the diagonal you might have your feet or head, or both, outside the coverage of the quilt.
Maybe try just pinning it together first, before sewing, to see if it works. Or, maybe use it folded in half the other way. That would give you a 42" x 66" partial quilt. I have found that partial quilts work much better than I expected.

Some really good detail about the suspension and ways to stress relief the shock cords.

But that fold makes it much wider than it needs to be.
I'm 6' 1" and would rather risk a cold shoulder than guarantee a cold Head AND feet

Will definitely mock this up "no sew" first.

Yeah, I'd say 40* - 45* on the double layer PLUQ ... so long as you can keep it fairly snug under you. It would probably be a chilly 40 degrees tho!

I found this to be the case. I am short at 5' 4" so the partial was practically a full length on me. I liked having part of the fold open (not sewn shut) too in case I needed to slip extra insulation in between layers. I am an average sleeper and the partial set up took me comfortably to around 50*f. I bought a Jarbidge for cooler temps and more compressability at the same weight so I didn't test it cooler than that.

Thanks. I actually just uploaded that last night at midnight my time. So far...I'm really liking the PLUQ. Who ever came up with the idea was a genius. LOL. Easy and cheap to make.
