    Tree sap on suspension strap

Third time out with my Blackbird and I didn't see the line of sap on the back of the pine tree. Now I've got a big spot of sap on the strap (standard strap with WBBB). Any ideas how to clean it without damaging the strap? I've got it wrapped in a zip-lock bag now to make sure it doesn't come into contact with the hammock or tarp.

    3 options

lemon juice (hurts like hell on hands if you have cuts)
    WD40 (best option)
washing up liquid (takes longer than other two)

I use goo Gone and then wash them with Dawn dish.

wd40 will dissolve (even tar) and then washing up liquid cleans off the WD

Not at all. I never clean my straps. I have the first pair of straps we ever made in the shop still in use with one of my hammocks. The sap will harden up fairly quickly and then just flake off with additional use of the strap. Sure it's annoying to have the sap on your hands or gear so I pay attention when I pack up my straps and use one of our sap sacks to store the straps in. But it won't hurt any gear.

Awesome. Never would have thought of WD40. Goo Gone came to mind, but I wanted to be sure it wouldn't damage the straps.

Not in my limited experience. (I agree with pgibson...)
However, I wouldn't put solvents on my straps...would you put solvents on your climbing rope? The consequences of a strap failure are nothing like a climbing 'incident', but .....
I'd use a plastic bag or just douse the sappy area in talc (baby powder).
If it really bugged me, I'd just sew up a new set of straps.
