Yes, the shipping is due to the roll size. I've never heard or Magna shipping off the roll, but who knows?

The shipping scared all of us at first. Once you get over it, you'll realize the cost is still much lower than any other source. Larger rolls end up less per yard than smaller rolls. My shipping to Indiana has been around $30 in the past.

If yuo are making your own tarp and dipping you or silnylon, I do have one suggestion, make the tarp first then apply the Sil, this way you don't have to go over your seams again afterwards. When using pre-made Silnylon you have to go back over your seams with a silicone seam sealer to fix the holes your thread injector made. Also, what kind of tarp are you making?

Here are three tarp designs that most use, depending on your needs. Good luck on the project. I personally will start on my projects this January once i have the money to do so.

I made 2. They both are Marpat. It was a great learning experience but I will not do it again. It came out a little heavier than equivalent silnylon (started with 1.1 ripstop) and it made quite a mess. I made the tarps for, and gave the tarps to friends who didn't have the budget for store bought sil. I wasn't looking for any new Class B dependents so I offered to help them get tarps the hard way.

It works but I honestly recommend getting the good stuff.
