    Raven Cliffs Halloween Overnighter

Had a great time at the Raven Cliffs Halloween Overnighter. Squdbilly brought us some great BarBQ for Friday nights dinner and everyone sat around the fire and enjoyed themselves. A little before 9:00 the rains started and sent everyone back to their hammocks. The wind picked up and the temps dropped and sometime after midnight our rain turned to sleet and then to snow. I woke up about 3:00 to snow blowing into the tarp ends due to shifting winds. Lowered the head end and put on the Grizzbeak and it was back to sleep snow free. We had a camp visitor in the form of a stray hunting hound. He kept Buddy, BeBop and Jethro company and was quiet and polite but a little shy. The coyotes howled through the night and every now and then you'd hear him bark in the distance. About 5:30 he decided it was time for us to get up so he barked and howled for a good thirty minuets. After breakfast folks started packing up and by afternoon it was sleeting and snow flurries were blowing in the wind.

    Great views and deceptive skies

Granny Spider! For someone who hates spiders she was really overcoming her fears.

Warm and toasty by the fire

    Remnants of Friday nights snow.

    Creek view from the hammock.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Looks and sounds like an exciting time. Good weather to use the Grizzbeaks. And love the pic of granny spider.

Thanks everyone, for another great North Georgia hang. Jethro, BeBop, Max and I had a great time. We took some photos of the snow on the way out.

Thanks to everyone that was able to make it, and thanks again to Squidbilly for the Friday night BBQ dinner he provided, plus making the 4+ hour drive over to hang with us. The weather channel said the winds we're gusting up to 50 MPH above and a few limbs (and trees) came down during the night making sleep a little difficult at times, but the comfort of the hammock makes up for it. I'm glad I bought the Underquilt Protector from 2QZQ last year, it certainly saved the night! If my memory serves me correctly we had the following folks make it in for the night:
GrannyPat, Squidbilly, Max, Bebop, Jethro, MadDog and his wife Debbie, 2Ply and Buddy, Mixup.
As 2 Ply mentioned in his report, we deemed it a good time pack it up around 4 PM Saturday after it became quiet clear the rain and snow and UNRELENTING wind was not going to stop. I can't apologize for the weather as it is out of our hands, but these kind of hangs make for for good campfire stories and memories. Thanks all and hope to see you again soon.

Great photos squidbilly. Wish I could have made it to the hang.

Sorry I couldn't make it up for this one -- my kids are still young enough that their desire for Halloween candy overrides their desire to camp. Looks like it was a great time!
