    Hello from NW Florida

Hello! Brand new forum member and brand new to forums as well. Pardon if I goof something up. Been gearing up and just seriously started backpacking and hanging for the last two years. I guess that would still put me at a newbie. Decided to join a forum, and everything pointed here. Lets see, I like to hike in north AL and going to attempt my first section hike of the AT next year. Thats all I can think of at the moment. If anyone can point me in the direction of a group hang i. FL or AL, I think I'd like to try that. Thanks!

Welcome! Check the regional forums, there's a few hangs in Florida coming up. I personally just got back from the William Bankhead National Forest in N Alabama, today actually. Great spot to check out if you haven't yet. There's a lot of good info here though so dig in and enjoy.

    Welcome from Gainesville!

The 5th Annual FL Hang (they're calling it "FHV" this year) is coming up over MLK weekend in January in Ocala National Forest. It's not to be missed; there're be more hangers, more activities, and more food than you can shake a sharp stick at. The link for the planning thread for it is in my signature.

As to a slightly closer (temporally, at least) hang, there's the annual Grinder's Birthday Hang (link to planning thread) coming up this weekend down in Lake Arbuckle State Forest.

I'm also getting a few friends together this weekend at Ginnie Springs (link to planning thread), though that isn't really a "group hang". It's more of a front-country fun time for a few of my friends and I that I threw open for folks to come if they want.

Hope to see you in January!
