    It's official- I am a hammock sleeper!

Well I just returned from a three night pack trip and the hammock is my friend! The first night things took a little getting used to- I made two adjustments in the hang early and then found that stuffing my pillow under my knees was all it took! Had a very restful, comfortable and easy sleep. Temps got down into the high twenties- I was warm and toasty! My friends all left the following day- it was colder than planned and they were all uncomfortable.
The second night I slept 10 hours straight! I can't do that at home. Third night was great and I woke up feeling good and ready to make the hike out.
I may have sold a hammock or two for Clarke- I could not be happier with the setup and my friends were equally impressed. I wish I had found this 10 years ago!
Thanks to everyone on the site for all the incredibly helpful information- without it I am sure this would not have been the success that it was!
Based on my experience the son is getting a Clarke for XMAS!

Congratulations and welcome to the club. My experience, and I'm guessing that of others, was very similar. The first night felt a little strange. And I had a tent set up nearby in case I decided to bail on the hammock. But I stayed in. The second night, I figured I'd use the tent. But as I walked by it, my body kept going towards the hammock. It did not want to sleep on the ground again! I was an a Hiking presentation last night and during discussions there, I had to admit, a tent does have it's place - so don't throw yours away. If you are socked in for a day or two with constant rain, It is nice to be "inside" something. If you have to get up and move to a new site anyway, then a hammock is okay - like a bivi bag. I'm saying you can be perfectly warm and dry in a hammock in pouring rain. But if you have to be there for a day or two, it's nice to have an alternative. I'm not putting that out to "dampen" your enthusiasm - I'm a hammock fan all the way too. Just wanted to add some balance. Hint - get a big tarp.

Awesome! What were you using for bottom insulation? This weekend will be my first hang, and the lowest temp of the weekend at night is looking to be 30*F. I have a CCF pad and a brand spankin' new 20* EE quilt.

I used the Clark Z- liner for the bottom insulation and a 0 degree Jacks R Better for the tq. I like to be fairly cool when I sleep- no problem in a hammock.
I frankly was a little skeptical about needing much insulation when in a hammock- However, after experiencing it I can tell you that you really need the insulation- especially in the wind!

Congrats on a successful trip. Now all ya need is a thread injector and a visit to the DIY forums. Be forewarned, it's addicting.

Congrats! It does take some time to adjust to sleeping in a hammock. When your body finally adjusts to it. It's all over from there.
    Is it hang time yet?
