It was a bit disturbing to see Dutch suspend selling the speed hooks. I was proud he did it and he stated the reason being his rush to judgement on putting them out on the market. That being said, I have hung using my hammock anchors about three times thus far at varying tree distances. I've notice some slight discoloration of the amsteel but that would be expected in my opinion. There is still a slight learning curve on the attachment and I have to be careful to insure I have the proper routing of the line per HammockFans instructions. I am keeping a close watch on mine to insure I am not experiencing a similar issue as the speed hook. I really like my anchors and marvel every time I use them that something so small can keep me in the elevated bliss.

They are both such innovative and useful products. Great line of thinking, just remains to be seen if the execution will hold up under the proper use of the product. Here's hoping for no future issues with the Hammock Anchor and for Dutch's speedy resolution of his concerns with the speed hook.

I'm curious if you have done any break testing on new and used systems and what the results were. Thanks

I tested the hammock anchor with new amsteel only. I believe testing them with amsteel intentionally aged has little value to the end user. None of our amsteel leaders will wear at the same rate because of the many variable such as: number of uses, the amount of stress is put on them during each use, the type of climate they were used in, and being used properly every time.

If I tested hammock anchors with amsteel leaders aged by my own use, the results might suggest I could use the leaders for 50 nights before replacing. However someone who weighs more than I might only get 25 nights before his/her leaders need replacing. So If I posted the results of testing on my personally used gear, it might appear as misleading.

I hope that all makes sense. I have had a long day. LOL

I agree with you. Both the Speed Hook and Anchor work great but do cause wear on the amsteel that we (the user) aren't normally used to. The rate of wear is based on all of the variables you suggested and is inherent in the design.

So you are saying the leaders will fail when using the anchors? How many hangs have you gotten out of your leaders before replacing them?

Yes, the leaders will eventually fail. There is always a limited life to any man made product. I have not had any of my personal leaders fail nor have I replaced them. I will not comment on how many hangs I have on them for the reasons stated in my previous post.

Shoot me an email. I have sent pretty much anywhere you can think of. It might be that I need to update the shipping.
