    Tying Up Loose Ends

So while I am waiting for my Speed Hooks to arrive, I was thinking about the loose line issue with Whoopies and I am sure Speed Hooks too.

I had a couple aluminum toggles lying around and found a great use.

I simply prussik one to each end of my sling close to three hammock. Then I took the extra line and looped it around three fingers. I then used the toggle like a button to hold the loops.

Same weight as a biner and the added bonus of a back up toggle in case I lose a Dutch biner. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
    Sorry about the sideways pictures.

Novel idea! I've always just daisy chained the leftover cord to get it out of that way. It would give me a better place to store my backup toggles (primary toggles are just foraged sticks).

I used rubber band to hold the loops together, but your idea is even better. Thank you!

Less is more. I just figure-8 the loose ends into a tight bundle and wrap with a quick half hitch. Keeps line neat, out of the way, and easily accessible - without any extra parts. HYOH.

sounds like solution looking for a problem.. but customizing to your liking is part of the beauty of hanging.

Interesting solution. I always figured if the rope would hole me it could hold the excess, I coil or figure 8 it and let it hang. And that save me .5 ounces and all that bulk!

The more I've used these toggles the more I like them. I agree it may be a bit of excess bling and not warranted as a single use item, but I now add one to my backpack and use it as a pseudo-carabiner for my lights or knife or snack bag or anything else with a loop to it. They really are weightless (made from a couple inches of a hollow aluminum arrow shaft and a short length of zing-it). And if you leave them on your suspension line you can hang loads of other items (stuff sacks, head lamp, drying squirrel pelts , wet socks, ...)
