ViDEO: How To....Tree Hugger-Marlin-Spike-Toggle for Hammock Suspension

Hammock suspension........truly important and several ways to do it. My preference for most of the year other than deep Winter is the Tree Hugger/Marlinspike Knot/Toggle Method that is used to connect a Whoopie Sling to a tree. Makes me feel like I am doing something and has little bulk. Fun to tie the knot...at least for me.
I do get asked about this over and over so thought it was time for a re-visit since the original is buried in my Hammock How-To Series from years ago.
This is just one option for a way to suspend your hammock and probobly the trickiest due to the knot and toggle. But I love this way....not sure why.

Hope this helps some of ya'll out some.

I'm new to all this stuff but so far I really like how easy my cinch buckles are. What method do you use in the winter when you don't want to tie the MSH?

I love me some Shug whoopie talk. Is that wrong?

Well, Shug. With the new Titanium bling out there, it may be time to expand into the single line suspension.....attempt. Just to give a try and report.

And I still go into the How-To Series every now and again. Good times for me and the kids. Glad to see you updating, from tarp talk to whoopies. Thanks for taking us along on the re-How-To refresher courses.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

The best part about this way for me is less bulk, not to mention no knots..My toggles and straps fit into my hammock stuff sack along of course with the whoppie attached hammock. Keeps everything together for me...Thanks Shug, watched one of your older videos to learn this way...

I have a quick question about this. I did this a couple of weeks ago and it seemed like the whoopie suspension dug way into the knot after only 2 to 3 hours. Is this normal? How hard will it be to disconnect after longer periods of time?

I've had to resort to pushing one end of the toggle against the tree to get it started to move (cold, wet and old hands) but once the toggle is out it all just comes apart.
