A Walmart down SB is very compact and makes a dandy TQ or convert to an UQ. Buy 2 and have both. They compact down to ~ cantaloupe size.
I would say a fleece tavel blanket, but it's about the size of ^^ down SB. And you would still get CBS.

when did walmart start selling down bags?
I want to bring something small beccause of limited space in my small pack.
This is a jungle-beach trip with a minimum temp of 60. and more nights in the 70s. And, some rain.
Sorry, i just don´t picture a walmart down bag as something good or long lasting.
People rave about the Walmart down bag for the money. Just as people rave about the JC Penny down parka/coat as well. Not everything those companies sell is crap. As for my own experience, I stalked several Walmart's for that down bag and was extremely disappointed - you could hold the bag up to the light and see nearly a whisper of down inside it....yet still people seek it out so YMMV (your mileage may vary).
About CBS, even at 60º you're going to want something beneath you...so that's literally packing two blankets or a TQ and UQ which will be near the size of a regular sleeping bag which you probably already own so I don't know what to tell you if your pack space is so limited. Perhaps strap it to the bottom of the pack?

I don't think you want a down SB in the jungle. I just used a blanket and laid on top of it.
Biting bugs/malaria prevention will be your main issue. I hadn't discovered 'Premethrin' prior to my travels to South America, but if I were you I'd treat my outer clothing and hammock with 'Premethrin' a couple days prior to leaving.
Also, make your hammock look wrinkled/junky so customs won't swipe it - they have been known to take anything that seems 'out of the ordinary and valuable. There is another member that spent a lot of time in South America. I'll look up his name and ask him to send you a note.

Sorry, the "^^" was in reference to the above line that spoke of a Walmart Down Sleeping Bag.
SB= Sleeping Bag
TQ= Top Quilt - This would replace a Sleeping bag (SB). It's basically a SB without a back/bottom
UQ= Under Quilt - This replaces a pad under you. It's hung under/outside of the hammock
CBS= Cold But Syndrome - This happens when you don't have enough insulation under you.
SB's can be used by most folks down to 60*F even mid 50's*F. Down TQ's have less material than down SB's so they compact smaller and are lighter, as well.
UQ's are hung under the hammock so you don't compress the insulation with you weight. This keeps it nice and warm and no pad to slide off of.

A single carry on is a good idea. thanks for explaining my small backpack to all. I expect to have a shoulder bag to carry food in, but empty on the plane. I´m typing about visiting ruins in guatemala and the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. How does premethrin last when you wash your clothes most every day. I was thinking of bringing a little deet for my ankles at least.
