    A Sliding Trucker

A sliding trucker is a motorists nightmare but a Sliding Trucker could be a hammockers dream. I use a continuous ridge line and I like it tight so it does not sag much when I use it as a place to store my gear. To get a tight ridge line I use a truckers hitch. I have used Zingit but it hurts my hand so I went back to 1/8 nylon rope. I have made Sliding Truckers for both.

    The Sliding trucker

With no tension on the line they can be slid back and forth on the line.

Pull it good and tight with a 3 to 1 mechanical advantage.

Wrap the line around the 2 other lines then through the slots in the Sliding Trucker and tie in single bow knot. It works like a binder buckle. The line leaving the slider to the left has twice the pull on it as the one going to the right. This causes the slider to slide to the left pinching the rope.

That's pretty cool man. I could see some people being into them if you could make them out of titanium. Everything is better when it's titanium. If you don't have to capability to produce them you should talk to Dutch, he may be interested.

My tools mostly consist of a drill, hack saw, and a file. I broke a couple of taps on the 0-80 threads. Some one with the correct tools could replace the slider with a bent piece of metal that was bent to fit like Dutches buckle. That would make it much simpler to make.

That is pretty cool, I made something similar some time ago. Mine was like a rope guillotine. However it was before I learned about amsteel. That stuff is fun, take some tools and idea and tinker.

Yours looks a lot neater than mine. I had trouble making a slider like yours but yours is a lot simpler than the one with 3 pieces that requires screws to hold it together. By adding the hook on the end it makes a mechanical advantage to getting the ridge line tight. I have done my share of tinkering some work some don’t.

The above slidingTrucker takes too long to make so I decided to try something else.

With the rope threaded like his the new sliding trucker can be slid back and forth on the ridge line until I get it where I want it.

Then I pull the rope out from between the holes and make a loop around the tail. Next take the rope around a tree and come back and hook it behind one of the ears and pull it tight.

Make a figure 8 around the other ear and put a twist in the line and pull tight around one of the ears.

I like your anchor thing, but hammockfan has these out in titanium ,only other difference is he has only 1 hole in his ,and he has a bigger version for hammock suspension as well ,but still a great idea

I thought about buying one of hammockfans anchors and trying to drill another hole in it but was afraid I would not have space enough. This does almost the same thing as Dutches Wasp only for larger rope.
Hay its winter and I need something to do.

lol I hear you, keep on fiddling, you never know what's around the next bend, that s how great ideas come about
I also like the idea about being able to use a bigger rope on some things ,

Thanks MagicPaddler! Its good to know I am not crazy for wanting an amsteel ridgeline for my tarp. I too want little stretch if I hang gear etc...your ideas are terrific! Now where is that darn pile of titanium bits and pieces I had laying around?
