I would highly recommend anybody that plans on arriving late, past sunset, Fri. To take up Ice's offer and hang at his farm and come up Sat. Hiking in, in the dark, in this conditions and having to set up as well, would prove to challenging.

About the only benefit to hiking in, is that the trail would be broken and a bit easier to follow.

It looks like we are going from not having enough trees to having an ample supply. Those of you unable to make it, you will be missed. I hope that we can make it up to RHK, if not, we might attempt something closer to the state park, or Ice's if the offer still stands.

There's a pretty decent location on the AT going SOBO from 19E. It's close to the highway, but it will have fewer restrictions than the state park. Much better road conditions as well.

As for me, my power has been going on and off since I got back from Brazil. I've been relying on the Kerosene heaters to make up for it. Without it, the pipes could rupture even with faucets dripping. Probably not a great time to leave things unattended.

That makes good sense. Best of luck with your power.

I'll keep the other site in mind too. Do you recall what the name of the site is? I'll look at my map once I get home from work.

It's just the old Apple House shelter location. It was torn down due to being too accessible to the local party crowd. It's just a short hike from the AT intersection with 19E. It should have plenty of trees, a good water source, fire pit and shelter from the wind.

SOBO from 19E Applehouse is 5/10 ths in, unreliable water source ( should be fine now ) .. There's is a bridge 2/10ths in, before Applehouse, that crosses a stream and has tent sites that you can hang there. It's called Wilder Mine Hollow. You'd be about 17 miles North of Roan Knob.

NOBO from 19E is Bear Branch, 3/10ths in, water source is said to be polluted.

Might be able to make this after all. Was able to borrow a vehicle, so just need to figure out some last minute logistics

It'd be great to see you all.

We might want to have a group consensus for a back up plan if Carver's Gap is closed. Thoughts on Over Mountain Shelter or the old Apple House Shelter site? I am still planning on attempting Carver's Gap, but having a back up plan might be wise.
