    Grand Trunk Ultralight Suspension

    Just an FYI

I have a Grand Trunk Ultralight Hammock that I got for my 10 year old son.
We're going to do some Backpacking together and we've taken it to Scout camp a few times.

I just removed the Rope and S Hooks from the ends of the Hammock.
They were 82g for the pair.
    Replaced with 5g of Amsteel

The Hammock is now 284g in the stuff sack (haven't added an SRL yet).
I need to build him a suspension rig that isn't too fussy for him.

The Grand Trunk straps are 257g but are easy to set up.

I thought about using amsteel on mine. But I always wondered if the smaller diameter amsteel compared to the rope it came with would eventually wear and "cut" thru the hammock material?

Been using amsteel on my GTSBP for a few years. No problems.
I saw someone using heat shrink tubing (the stuff used on electrical wiring) to protect the fabric in contact areas but, I have not noticed any wearing of the fabric on my rig.

I replaced the suspension on three GTUL with whoopies two years ago. No probrems yet.

My youngest, still a scout, has switched to strap and bucket. Like the ones Dutch sells. Not necessarily the lightest but is the simplest for him.
