Here is my initial "bench" test using a Cloudburst, just to get a basic idea. It's going to have to get a little warmer before I do a real test.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who say there are two kinds of people, and all the others.
Here is a pic of my wife and I double hanging under a mamajamba. (This is before I had any tarp mods so I had it set up in a porch/semi-porch mode. Also pre-double dutch hooks so there were two trees at the head end. My plan is to use Dutch's hooks with a 36" spreader bar and a superfly with pole mods. As you can see from the pics, we are a lot further apart than 36" at the head end so it will be an experiment, particularly with the blackbird shelf.

Thanks for posting the photo, Suede. I've still been too chicken to test outside, but my suspicion is that the relationship between spreader bar length and tarp width is worth exploring. Even a 30" bar could be enough from what I saw with my "test", which, in turn, could allow for a little more tarp coverage in bad weather. Or, I could just go with a custom-made 12x12 cuben fiber tarp.

Hi Suede, have you had a chance to try the .490s yet? Thanks.
Hi JnL,
Well, yes but there was an issue with the end tip. I bought the end tip #4123 in their catalog. The "dome" part on the end would not fit through the hole on the hook. It looks as though the rest of the end tip will if I cut off the dome, which is my plan, but I have not done that yet.

Thanks, Suede. Do you know if Is there is another tip that could be substituted?
I was just looking on Quest's site. It looks like the #4122 end tip will work.
