    A Handy Tote

At the recent Texas Fall Hang I lit upon an idea that made transporting gear and set up real easy, a large tote from Wal-Mart. Everything that I needed for my bedroom between two trees fit right in there. That included tarp, hammock, quilts, weather sock, ground blanket, Paperwhite, light, clothes, water bottle, and personal items. The hammock with SRL, suspension, UQ, and weather sock was already put together. Things were packed in order: first in, last out. I positioned the tote between the trees, opened it up, ran tarp suspension to the trees, and staked it out. Same process with the hammock. Nothing ever touched the ground, except the ground blanket, of course. Only one with wheels would have been better.

i presume that this would be for car camping/ short 300m infils.......shopping carts that old ladies use........OR just a wheel barrow - dual purpose for wood carrying.

I do all my car camping out of plastic totes.

I at the very least use one for sleep system/hammock stuff, one for cooking/food/kitchen, and a smaller plastic bin with a locking lid for tools, utility items, etc. (head lamp, knives, extra cordage, biners, dutchware, all that stuff) - sort of a utility kit. All clothes go in a separate waterproof duffel for easy access.

I've never thought to pack it in a way that I can deploy directly from the tote though … hmm ...

Yes, this was a car camping trip. Only 25 feet to the trees I picked.

Ayup, there are smaller ones in the same line. I used one for the kitchen/pantry and the smallest for some DIY projects that I never around to doing in camp.

Think I'll get another of the smallest ones for cooking gear.

Good idea! I have an old wheeled toolbox (similar to http://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanley-2...3?N=5yc1vZc22a) that only has a few things in it. I may have to re-purpose it.

Whenever I go camping, I have between 1 and 4 of my kids with me. They each pack their own tote (well, mostly).

This picture shows our bins under our hammocks from a couple days ago, just before SilvrSurfr emptied one out to use for a foot bath.
