Anyone tried a just using a prusik for an adjustable suspension?

Having recently seen the speed hook (okay, I'm behind the times), I wonder if a prusik would hold. I've always assumed the amsteel would be too slippery, but if it has enough tooth to hold with the half turn on the speed hook, I wonder if it would hold with a three or four turn prusik with a dutch hook spliced on to attach to the CL...

Of course, before I risk brused glutes trying it out, I thought I'd see what more experienced hangers may have already learned the hard way.

I've tried it on rope but not on amsteel. I had some 1000 lb 4mm rope kicking around and made up some prusiks and used a single line to the tree straps. Worked fine but of course the rope stretches and its too bulky for back country use IMO. I just like playing with knots.

I would think that if it did fall it would be in super slow motion.
If you had a problem I think that it would be that the Prusik would roll and get jammed.
You should also try a Blake's Hitch. Works better with some ropes.

Just tried it in my hands...

If you are using a continuous loop for your Prusik, using the thin part for your wraps will make it hold better.
Try using at least 4 wraps for your Prusik.
3 wraps and I was able to easily pull it loose.
4 wraps made the whole knot more stable and less likely to crimp the suspension rope.

I also tried putting a Zing It Prusik onto Amsteel.
It really bit into the Amsteel.
Even with 4 wraps it really binds up.

Just wondering about using Zing It prusiks for Gear hangers etc...
Zing It Prusik on Zing It works better.
Wouldn't want much weight on it

One of my lazy ways of hanging a Hennessey that I haven't converted out of its original suspension. 3 to 4 turns on an am steel continuous loop and it doesn't budge at all. Never tried amsteel to amsteel.

These are 2 different principle at work here. A prusik is a friction loop cord constricting around another cord.

The Speed Hook uses a cord to wrap around a TI piece, constrict around itself and the Ti piece effectively lashing it in place.

Other than that, a prusik can hold suspension. The loop knot is used by climbers to move up a rope by utilizing 2 loops as they move up.

Just make sure that you test the prusik when dry, wet, cold to ensure it will bite down and hold. I have my tarp with a 5 wrap braided mason's line loop prusiked to my 1.75 Lash-it CRL and it slips a little. Try until you get the right formula.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
