Sky Meadows was very adamant about camping on the pads only last time I was there with scouts.

Yes frankly, I have heard some horror stories about Virginia state parks and hammocks. It seems to be on a case by case basis from park to park. Yet another reason I though we might home in on a new SP like Powhatan.
If we are considering heading up to Shenandoah, many of the federal campgrounds, North Creek, Big Meadows, and others on the Skyline Drive are good. That is getting a bit far out of the "Central Virginia" area though.
I will talk with Powhatan, about getting a date in May, once I get back from my trip up to Mt Pleasant. It will be later this week.

We were at Bear Creek Lake recently - didn't have any issues.

TNX for the name of the JRSP sites in the trees...but like you - I don't know if there's a group site back there?

Visited Holliday once - never have stayed. Twin Lakes was quite nice...

Powhatan SP is near US522 where it crosses the river (just for location sake...)
You don't HAVE TO be crazy to be here - But I assure you it will help.....

Yes, for information, Powhatan, is right near the Maidens boat landing.

I would be down for heading out for a Central VA hang. Don't have much experience in the state parks, aside from First Landing out in Va Beach (live in Norfolk), but I head that way many times a year to backpack/visit friends, and it's not a bad drive. I don't have a working kayak any longer, though.
